I have a 1980 SC and need to buy a C-tek charger. But does anybody know if the lighter is live without ignition. i am away at the moment and can not test it but want to order

cheers

In the last few days I collected a new CTEK 3600 Battery Charger, with Cigar plug adaptor.

I have found that without the ignition 'on' the unit will not charge via the 'ciggy' lighter. I have had to revert to using the croc' leads and the connecting direct to the battery.

Only took my Indie 10 minutes to rewire the cig lighter socket to permanent live.

John, How do you even start with this job? ie how do you get behind the cig lighter - it looks like it starts with a 2 hour job to get the dash out. There must be a trick...

Dunno precisely, Mark, but I know the Indie fiddled with the main fusebox in the boot.Dont think he touched the lighter unit.

Thanks - I'll have a look at the wiring diagram. Rather obvious now I think about it. Much easier to do at the fuse box end.[8|]
