Is my tyre screwed?

I took my car in for its first MOT recently (passed thankfully) but took the opportunity to have a mooch while it was on a ramp. I realised two things.

First, I didn't really have a clue what I was looking at but it all looked very well put together and thought out. Yay Porsche!

Second, my front nearside tyre has a screw in it! The head has broken off and I've no idea if its completely penetrated the tyre or not. I recently had a puncture in the wifes X5 which I got repaierd for a tenner and is fine. Would I be able to repair my front tyre?

It had 4 new tyres when I bought the car 4000 mile ago and they don't need changing as yet. Any comments, suggestions, experience would be much appreciated.

Repairs can only happen if the screw is within the main tread and at least a few cm's from either side of the wall. If it's too close to the wall or even at an angle into the side then its a replacement jobby unfortunately.

Try topping up the air in the tyre and monitor it. If its a slow leak then you needn't rush to get it replaced but bear in mind that it's in a weekend condition so unreliable.

It doesn't seem to be leaking at all. Its about 2-3cm in from the edge in the tread itself. I'll keep an eye on it.

Then you should be able to get away with it. I wouldn't worry about getting it plugged either: i've heard of people tracking them with repairs so they're pretty much up to the job at least.

I would suggest pulling out the screw and seeing what happens. If it goes down, get a new tyre. Remember what speeds these cars can easily achieve. If it was me I would hate to think that screw would work its way loose whilst i was on a motorway somewhere. Get a new tyre basically
 
Can't actually grab the screw to get it out because of how its positioned and the head has broken off. Surely I can't replace just one tyre? Can't be safe to have tyres with different levels of wear can it?

Porsche don't recommend it - especially if you have PSM - the car can think it's in a constant skid, so I understand
 
The N-Spec Leaflet (see FAQ section) says:

"In case of tyre damage such as cuts, punctures, cracks or sidewall bulges that cause a single tyre to be replaced for safety reasons, the remaining matching tyre on that axle must not exceed 30 percent wear. If the remaining tyre has more than 30 percent wear from new, it should also be replaced. This rule applies to all four tyres on all wheel drive vehicles. Handling inconsistencies may result if this is not done."
 
Sorry Guys,, no contest, If I had a screw imbedded in a tyre, at best its sent away, to see if a repair is possible, otherwise in the bin !!! no way I would drive any vehicle let alone a performance car like a 911 with a screw or other damage, waiting to blow out !!

Best to get it checked by a quality tyre specialist (and one who won't damage your rims)

It's almost certainly repairable. Lost count of the number of tyres I've had safely repaired.
