Is the S worth the extra?

I've been doing my sums for the new '05. Historically, there was a noticable difference between the spec of a 2.7 and the S. With the advent of the new '05 model the gap seems to have shrunk by a large amount, whereas the associated cost has not.

So, i've speced a 2.7 to be as close to an S as possible, resulting in:

2.7 + Sports Package + 18" wheels + partial leather = 35,192

Note the sport pack, which according to the book suggest that PASM is included.

The S would be:

S + PASM = 39,180

So if i'm correct the basic figures suggest that the extra bhp that you get with the S and the extra 500cc equate to about £4,000.

As the title asks is the S worth it? (or have I missed something)
 
[&o]Test drive both models and then you will conclude what personally suits you best ... I think they are both excellent but I like the extra gog, extra horses, extra brakes, extra sound from the 3.2 [;)], extra rubber/alloys not to mention the hide seats :ROFLMAO:
 
That's precisely it, they both now share the same brakes (cross drilled etc), and with all the add-ons they are the same, exept for 500cc and 40-50 bhp.

As much as I don't have a problem going for an S, other than the engine, I can save myself 4k and have the same vehicle. Or spend the extra 4k on more toys (yeah)

I think £4k for 50 bhp + better performance in other areas + better resale is quite good value. S will always command a premium and will be better to drive especially if you enjoy the extra performance at track days or on the road.

There were some fairly significant differences in the suspension if I'm not mistaken, although I don't know how pasm affects the new cars. I drove the (old) 2.7 and S back to back before buying mine, and they were quite different. Given that the difference in feel between the 2 old cars was deliberate, I can't see them changing that aspect. Agree with the guys here - drive both first & see which one suits.

Fine car as the 2.7 is, IMHO the S is much better. Price differentials even less if you do the sensible thing & buy a nice clean used model.
 
£4k for 40-50bhp, peanuts.

My S was worth every penny

In addition I then paid more than that for the 25-30bhp factory power upgrade on my 996 C4S just to make sure I could keep up with Andy Tims in his Boxster S at Goodwood.

Now I've gone a a bought a MK11 GT3 so his CS does not embarress me.

So be carefull, once you start buying performance it never stops.

So, we all start to think about affording a new one. A few answers on here would be useful.
What's the starting prices for 2.7 & S?
Anyone have a price guide yet?
How long from ordering one, say on launch night to delivery?
And the biggest - likely trade in value of a mint 2001 S in seal / nephrite, 12000 miles, aerokit + lots of bits

2.7 £32320 "S" £38720. At the moment my OPC has been hassling me to take a Nov build January delivery which I have declined as I want to see and drive a few specs and I am happy to wait for March new plate and hopefully any early production glitches sorted [:eek:]
