Is the std 997 a potential RMS victim?

I've been wrestling with the question as to whether the std 997 will fall victim to the dreaded RMS problem - it was my impression that unlike the S the std 997 used the current engine, albeit with the performance upgrade as std - I was speaking to one of the "staff" at the launch who confirmed and although he was taking the company line about the RMS now being included as part of the extended warranty - he did not disagree with this view. He was full of praise for the S and how there were so many improvements but would, expectedly, not be drawn further on the RMS topic - I'm not an engineer but think that in the S engine the RMS potential failure has been engineered out.
I therefore believe that for this reason alone I will go for an S.
Any thoughts?

As far as I am aware it's only a bored out version of the standard watercooled flat six (with additional cooling) but hey maybe they have re-designed the rear main oil seal at the same time...just try & prise that information out Porsche!

Sorry but i'm new to this board and am unsure what the RMS problem is, could you ellaborate?

Have a look at the thread on the boxster forum at -

Lengthy but contains a fair picture of what RMS is all about.
