Is The Tide Turning

Is the tide turning on 991 GT 3 cars ?
I hope not as this is the car that seems to underpin the rest.
Currently 14 for sale at OPC's up and down the country on the approved dealer list, ranging from the cheapest @ £149,950 with 9k miles, finished in white to a £180,000, 1500 mile Mexico blue one, giving a still fantastic average price of £163,841 per car.
But 14 for sale, why ?, something to-do with the RS ?
Surprisingly there was only one 997 GT3, but I expect most of those on the second hand market may be at independents.
Whilst looking there were 12 of the flagship Turbo S's and 9 Turbo's, mixed across both body styles.

And fresh purchases [:D]

Viewed a 991 GT3 at OPC 3 weeks ago and it was £169k ( new price £115,300) - received an email today advising it had reduced to £159k. Perhaps I'll wait a little longer[;)]

This GT3 for sale at Reading OPC used to belong to Richard Hammond, so the showroom host told me today when I looked in on the way home from Slough. http://locator.porsche.com/ipl-customer/ipl/details/details.ipl?cid=1 Only done 2473 miles but still at £159,900.

Much better that they (Porsche) had priced the car properly to start with (somewhere near basic turbo level) and had produced more to meet demand to avoid this speculative bubble.

But they don't need to sell GT3s, they only need to have them to sell. The whole point of a halo model is it should be special. Expensive helps to make it special.

I met someone from a dealership on the recent factory trip who said: "The GT3 supply situation has led to a number of angry and disaffected customers". It may be a first world problem but the idea that someone denied a GT3 is suddenly going to buy a Carrera complete with sound symposer as some sort of consolation prize is nonsense. My salesman offered me the execrable turbo S Special Edition - the one with the Union Jack embossed on the centre console - when he told me there was no GT3. He received a large flea in his ear. Of course, you want people to buy a GT car with their eyes open - they are clearly not for everyone - but demand has been so out of kilter with supply that we have this crazy price bubble. The supply situation for the GT3 RS is even worse of course and it looks like the price of entry to be sure of getting one is having a 918 in your garage." Similar story with the GT4. I missed out, and after visiting Osnabrück, it's clear the restricted supply is completely artificial and, no, I do not see the GTS as an alternative.

The GT3's are not particularly moving on the website, only 1 or 2 have sold in the last 3 weeks that I've been looking.

I also noticed that one has dropped in price by 7k, but it's still £30k over list.

There are lots of opinions on this subject but if you look at where the new RS is likely to be and I know of a specialist who has 1 coming and has taken a deposit at £50k over list which may yet turn out to be cheap and the GT4's with suggested £20 to 30K over list then the GT3 must level out once the glut of cars have either been sold or taken off the market.

A GT3 should sit between a RS and a GT4 so expect them to be over list for sometime to come at least until the next GT3 is released. As Mark says it was underpriced to start with and probably should have been around Turbo price at least.

Just my opinion for what its worth and I do have a valid interest.

Have to agree with your thoughts and logic, although nothing is guaranteed. The GT range does need to hold their values, ( as do they all ) to bolster everything else, but not at the cost of a lot of them becoming virtual garage queens.

I wonder what the spread of prices are in regarding to SOR and OPC stock cars ?.

looking at the online sales, a good thing being, it seems as the Turbo and Turbo S's prices have hardened , although there looks to be a few more about at the moment.
