Is there a problem with the diesel Cayenne?

All over the press today is the EPA investigation of the VW V6 diesel but the company is not admitting liability, unlike when the four cylinder scandal broke.
This is what Porsche North America said last night;

'Late this morning, Porsche Cars North America, Inc. received a notice of violation from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding the 2015 Porsche Cayenne Diesel. We are surprised to learn this information. Until this notice, all of our information was that the Porsche Cayenne Diesel is fully compliant. Porsche Cars North America will cooperate fully with all relevant authorities.'

Source Business Insider and Reuters
so they're not taking this one lying down.

I wonder if November 5th provides the opportunity
to get rid of all diesel vehicles instead of waiting for
the inevitable legislation.

Peter - heard on DAB radio (Magic FM) - much earlier in the piece, - that Porsche Diesel 3 litre SUV models were to be included in the emissions saga. Further comment today indicated models from 2013-2015 "suspect and under investigation" - seems more than pure conjecture.
Presume this covers both Cayenne and Macan versions ? Obviously, the VW SUV series similarly , also feature. Local Porsche Centre has no update - "We will be last to know" as mournful quote.
Trust your vehicle has returned to full bodily health - losing any hint of fifty shades of grey !- now fully un-restrained[:)]

Hi
I have been watching this whole issue from day one and have to conclude , the cars that i have bought over the last years from Porsche are more cleaner and more fuel efficient, that is my opinion and i know as i put the fuel into the car, its called MPG and sterling£££ out of your pocket. Software enhancement on engine management is good as we all benefit as it costs us less but not as much as we are led to believe. I have a Cayenne V6 diesel 2013 and it is fantastic 34 to 43 mpg. 3 years ago i was driving a 3 litre diesel 18 to 23 mpg , i rest my case.

i must say i am surprised that my V6 petrol is doing less than the V8.
Only marginally but less .I dont drive fast and the Newby has 8 gears to help it .
Still luv it though ....

All fixed thanks, but this version is still not quite as economical as the previous one, drove down through Spain recently, a journey we've done a few times, and recorded about 3mpg worse for the trip. Surprising as Porche claims that it should be better.

Hi,
I recently came back to Porsche after a 2 year break with an Aston Vantage.
I bought a new Cayenne Diesel and am very upset with the current news that the EPA is investigating the 3L unit too.

Porsche have withdrawn the Cayenne Diesel from sale in the US so there is definitely a problem.

Has anyone heard from Porsche UK yet?

Personally it has really put me off the car and I'm waiting to see what my OPC will say.
I would prefer switching to a petrol Macan at this point.....

I am interested as to why it has put you off the car. Is it because it produces more NOx than hitherto we were aware of, or some other reason?

Well I've just spent the best part of £68k on this car and to now hear that it has been withdrawn from sale in the US....it just makes me question the decision to have bought that model.

This will surely have an effect on residuals too which is my primary concern.

if Porsche are so confident that the 3l diesel unit is not affected, why did they withdraw it from sale?
If there is a "fix", will it alter performance? Increase road tax level?..

This is why I'd rather move away from diesel to a petrol model like a Macan.

I'm not saying that I want to move away from Porsche but this is the most I've ever spent on a car and my excitement is draining away.

I'm sure there will be a short term effect on residuals while they sort out the mess, but long term hopefully not. Road tax is unaffected by NOx levels so probably that won't be affected. We'll wait and see what the 'fix' is...

All I can add as an owner of a V8DS Cayenne (which I don't think is affected) is that my counterparts who own Range Rovers and drive similar size engines fail to often get 50% of the fuel consumption I get, and I think this is a similar story with the V6 version so the cars are still more efficient pollution wise.

Also as will be proven VW will not be alone, however this is the start of a very hard time for the VW group they will come out of this a very different company, surviving will be a tough one, and I never thought I would say that of a company this size. There may will be knock on effects across the entire group on all VW brands. I am positive there will be more pressure now to develop electric vehicles even faster .

I think I'm correct in saying it is only the "euro 6" cars that are suspect, and your V8 must be euro 5, as no euro 6 V8 cars are available until late November. The V6's have supposedly been euro 6 for a while now. Anyway, apart from the tree huggers, who gives a stuff about emissions? I agree that it is yet another reason for taking a hammering on residuals, but, apart from the classics, we do anyway. I have a V8 on order for next April, and have no intention of cancelling.

I am not sure as today I was advised by the dealer older euro 5 cars are as well, there is suspicions that they wont be making the V8DS as a Euro 6 car heard this now from 3 dealers shall wait and see. Here is fact for everyone & super tankers at the 3 mile point out in national waters pollute more than every single car on the road in the world !! To me the VW saga is caused by lying board members and the Americans getting all touchy as they do and super suing the company to reduce their deficit. :) The sad fact is that we Porsche Owners will have a knock on effect as the group will need every spare cent to fight this bad time off.

Just spoken to my OPC. He confirms that the V8DS is happening, but early cars are delayed until late Jan, early Feb due to demand outstripping supply of some parts, but confirms that my car is still scheduled for April delivery. However he does say that the OPC'S are usually the last to find out from Porsche, and they get most of their info from Pistonheads, PCGB, and Autocar forums!!!
Asked him to email me when he actually sees one.....
Cheers
Paul

Having had fun at the expense of those with diesel vehicles,
should I now panic about my petrol version?
The biter bit?
