Is there a service kit available for a steering box?

I have some play in my steering box, (Non power assisted) when i rock the wheels left to right from under the car.
Does anyone sell service kits?
The problem is the wheels chatter when driving at around 100km/h, Then when I get to 140 they stop?
I think this is the problem.

You don't have a steering box, you have a rack and pinion (I hope).[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]The parts I have had replaced to get rid of slop are the lower steering column section which has 2 UJs in it and also the tie rods which have a ball and socket connection at the rack end that wears. Also replace the tie rod ends where they connect to the hubs and possibly the bearings in the upper steering column.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

You'll know if it's the steering rod with the 2 u/j's in it because unless it's really knackered you will get play and vibration until the engine warms up. When the engine is warm the shaft expands, lenghtens and pushes up agains the 2 u/j's thus taking out the play. Before I replaced mine I would get what felt like out-of-balance wheel wobble at around 60 to 70mph that would gradually dissapear as the engine warmed up.

Yes, that's what I paid for mine. My local breaker tried to sell me a 2nd hand one for £40 saying they were £200 from the OPC - the look on his face when I told him I got one for less than that from them his face dropped!! It's a shame alot of the other components aren't plummeting in price by the same rate.

Me to, made a hell of a difference. After putting the new steering shaft in though was getting a terrible vibrating sound when turning sharp left corners.

Had a look and the exhaust manifold was touching the steering shaft. I've read on rennlist that this is a common problem and if un-noticed can lead to fracture of the exhaust manifold. Luckily I noticed it in time and replaced the right side engine mount for a genuine porsche item. manifold is now sitting around 1 inch away from the steering shaft :)
