Is this 997 too cheap to be true?

Hi All,

I am in the market for a used 997 and stumbled across this one. To me it seems very cheap at £26,500, especially for an S but it has had 4 owners.

What do all the experts think? Your opinion is appreciated.

Thanks

It is usually considered that if it's too good to be true then it is! The history of this vehicle needs checking very thoroughly. Ignoring the errors in the specification compared to the photos e.g. Body kit and sports seats, which it doesn't have and those cheap aftermarket wheels the price is very attractive. Caveat emptor.
Maybe the rate of depreciation on these cars is worse than I had feared. Scary!

It's about £10k too cheap (esp for the relatively low mileage). Tread carefully!

- A quick check of Companies House website shows that the company (A1 Performance Solutions) has only existed since October 2009

Lots of info in the description - a lot of it repeated(!) - (it's got a computer and a trip computer, metallic paint and solid paint(!) heated screen??) but no mention of a full Porsche service history. Hmm...tread very carefully.......or, on the other hand, you may be the lucky one to pick up this year's bargain.[;)]

the inside of that car has done WAY more then 30k miles

and the inside of the showroom is no showroom!!just a couple of rooms he has hired for the day and borrowed a fezza to make it look "realistic"
doesnt(or shouldnt!)fool anyone with even an ounce of sense

leave well alone

On google maps there appears to be a body repair shop called Coachcraft at their registered address. Says it all really.

My first impression was also not great but I gave them a call becuase you never know bargains can exist.

I called three times, each one went through to an answer machine.

Time to move on I think.

Thanks everyone!

Reminds me of when I sold my 996 with 140k on the clock. I then came across it for sale advertised at a "car showroom" in Leicester for 12k more than I got for it with, get this, 20k miles on the clock! It turned out that was a ruse to get customers along on false pretense thne do a hard sell on them. Car dealers eh!

I will be passing their place next Thursday on my way to Exeter OPC - I can pop in and have a look if it's still available! Worth giving them a ring to ask about service history/owners/ how did it find it's way to them etc

thanks! i've placed a deposit on the car. it came from the owner's friend, 4 owners (i know 997s change hands pretty often).

That's exciting, when do you get to see it? If you haven't driven it away by Thursday I will still probably drop by for a quick nose around![;)]

Looking at the pictures its not an S, the twin flattened exhausts and carerra badge suggest its just that a standard Carerra. Still the price is very low even for a 54 plate, so it might just be a bargain.

Make sure the 40k service has been done as its very pricey. Make sure it has a service history either from an OPC or well know Porsche specialist - any one else walk away.

Make sure the service schedule has been kept too. Look for evidence of ongoing maintenance eg at 43k miles I'd expect the brake pads if not the disks to have been changed, coil packs are likely to have needed changing etc.

Bring a friend to look it over, its their job to be cynical and keep your feet on the ground looking at anything potentially suspect so you can get carried away with the good bits - make sure you have a good long test drive and test everything works including the brakes.

Tom? Think the "S" in the second refers to the Tip and not the Carrera!

Won't be in the area Sat but enjoy the test drive![;)]

TS nope just opened the link provided - it calls the car a 2 Tiptronic S, slightly misleading I think

Agree, slightly misleading. Its a carrera 3.6 tiptronic s.

It was sold by Exeter OPC twice as a used car and also sold once by this dealer to the previous owner.

On the history, OPC service in 06 then this dealer did the service in 08 before they sold the car to its previous owner. They're doing a full 40k service on it now also, and i've been assured they follow Porsche's schedule. Any thoughts on this?

"They" as in Exeter Diesels? I'd be much happier if they took it around the corner to Exeter OPC who are very fine bunch of chaps/chapesses.

I asked them to carry out the service there, but not to much surprise they said they will do it in their workshop.

Could be an idea to take it in there for a 111 point check?

As they know the car to some extent seems like a plan. If you call them ask for Wayne. Thoroughly nice and helpful man.
