Is this a problem?

great colour :) I wouldn't worry about it, OPC PDI will pick up and correct any issues before you take delivery.

Do you think I should raise it with the OPC? And how would they fix it?

Hi guys,

My new 718 Cayman was delivered to my local OPC yesterday and I was there to see it coming off the back of the transporter. I've been waiting neartly 9 months for my car so was really excited to see it.

I took loads of pictures of it and everything looked OK to me. But when I downloaded the pictures I noticed that the front wing doesn't seem to meet the bottom panel correctly (see picture attached).

Looking at it from other angles it doesn't look quite so bad, and the other side seems to be the same (though I don't have a picture from the same angle of that side).

Is this something I should be concerned about?

The car was built in Osnabruck at the Karmann plant, does anyone else have a car built there recently that they can share a picture of from the same angle?

This is my first Porsche so as you can imagine I want everything to be perfect.

Thanks,
Richard.

If you're concerned just mention it so they are aware and can look at it.

I mentioned it to my OPC and they sent me pictures of three other 718's they have in and they all have the same feature.

Cool colour

Thanks, I love it!! Can't wait to pick it up on Monday.

Richard,

Your new 718 CS looks great in Miami Blue.

If it's any help, I have attached a photo of the same panel joint on my 718 CS built in Stuttgart, November 2016. I have no issues with panel joints or door fitting gaps.

One thing I would say is that the rear wheel arch area is very prone to stone chip damage. Unlike previous Caymans, there is no protective film for the front edge of the wheel arch on the 718. I had Xpel film applied to the sills and rear wheel arches. After 6000 miles, already several stone hits are showing on the Xpel.

Enjoy your new car. You will not be disappointed I am sure of that.

Thanks for the picture Brian.

I collected the car yesterday and the panel doesn't look as bad as the picture would suggest... probably why I didn't notice it when I was taking the pictures. All the other 718's that were in the OPC compound were exactly the same so I'm not worried about it.

You have the same wheels as me, and I absolutely love them. They really work with the Miami Blue of my car.

I've not driven the car much since picking it up yesterday but from what I've experienced so far it's going to be fun!!

Thanks for the advice on the film, I'll look into that... sounds like it's something I need to do on mine.

Thanks,

Richard.

Thanks Richard.

Enjoy your 718 CS. Your choice of wheels not only look good with Miami Blue, but also being half an inch wider than the other 20" options, will offer dynamic benefits as well.

Keep an eye on my thread in this forum for updated news on my version of the 718 CS PDK. It's over 6k miles now and I'm absolutely loving it more with every mile.

I never imagined the 718 CS would be this good, as both a comfortable tourer and a more than capable track day machine.

Brian

Hi Brian,

I've actually been reading your thread over the past few months, makes fascinating reading. Excellent spec too, we have a lot of options in common. We both chose the best wheels!!

It's good to hear you're enjoying your car so much, I'm sure I'll have the same amount of fun with mine.

Richard.
