Is this acceptable?

So, after deciding to leave replacing my tyres last Autumn until the new year, they have a DOT mark of 17/16.....

Is this acceptable as they are already a year old?

The thought behind leaving them until 'Spring' was that I would get the latest 'batch'.......

Your thoughts on this please [8|].
Thanks

personally i would run them whatever year as long as they looked in top condition, checking them all over including inside edge

The Michelin site says...

"Tyres have no predictable life. It does’t matter when the tyres were made. Tyres age even when not used, or if only used occasionally. There are many factors that will affect the life of the tyre such as temperature, maintenance, conditions of storage and use, load, speed, pressure as well as driving style. These will have a great impact on the length of service life you can expect from your tyres.

After five years or more in service, your tyres should be thoroughly inspected at least once per year. If the need arises, follow the recommendations of the vehicle manufacturer regarding replacing the original equipment tyres. As a precaution, if the tyres have not been replaced 10 years from their date of manufacture (see how to read a tyre sidewall), Michelin recommends replacing them with new tyres. Even if they appear to be in usable condition and have not worn down to the tread wear indicator."

Thanks Ralph.
I had 'challenged' if this was acceptable or not, as I was thinking a newer batch would have been made......

I use a local guy who buys in to order. Just replaced motorhome Tyres and told him wanted to watch age, they were week 7 this year. Have seen Tyres advertised as new but 5 years old on the internet sites hence use local guy.
I would be OK with them up to year old, probably wear them out before the 5 year mark anyway ??

If being from a "fresh" batch is important to you, then inspect the date before you buy them. I would have thought a year old is OK, given that Porsche recommends tyres are changed after 6 years from manufacture.

So reading all the above, if someone was to offer you unused tyres (Michelins for example) that were stored well, out of sunlight etc etc....but were old than say 5-7yrs old, it would be a definite "Walk Away" then?

Hi Kasspa, When I replaced all 4 of mine, same as yours, in early 2016 I could not get all 4 matching tyres only either front or rears but not both and had real trouble getting them, I was offered a matching set but 4 years old. In the end I went to OPC Cambridge who also had trouble, they could only find 1 set, but they did secure me a matching set of tyres N4 rated direct from Pirelli, the only ones they could find. I was later told that they are batch produced about once a year due to the low volumes required due to the tyre size which is why they are hard to find and may be older then 1 year.
The same is true in Australia.

Hi Paul, Yes it seems to like the warm climate here and it is going extremely well having been serviced here when it arrived, I have found an independent here who is the membership director of the Porsche Club WA!, and had the front discs machined as they warped! Apart from that settling in OK cant believe I have been here a year already.
