Hi Guys mid november i drained the coolant from the 944 and replaced it with new antifreeze mix,i took the car for a good run everything was fine.
Today i put the battery back on and started it for the first time this year.It started first time good oil pressure and no leaks ,i ran the car for about half an hour the heater was blowing out hot air so i thaught everything was fine . After i stopped the car i was checking under the bonnet and i noticed the water in the expansion tank was still cold/tepid but the top and bottom rad pipes were hot also when i nipped the top pipe i could make the water in the expansion tank move and spill out when the top was off . After repeated nips the water did start to warm up a bit but not a lot. When the car was running the temp gauge read normal and the fan was kicking in now and again i just thaught the expansion tank water should be warmer than it was as the engine and top and bottom pipes were so hot. Your thaughts would be much appreciated guys
Thanks Andy

Expansion tank water doesnot need to be warm as it is not "in the loop" - the coolant doesnot circulate through the expansion tank.

So - sounds good!

The expansion tank is connected to either side of the radiator, so as Mike says there isn't much of a flow through it.
