I was told yesterday, by an OPC, that from November (08) the Cayman will have a 2.9 engine and the S will have direct injection.

I knew about the S changes but a 2.9 engine is news to me. They told me that information was coming through from Porche in a drip feed manner
so they were unable to give me full details of all the changes made on the 09 spec cars, in fact the 2.9 details only arrived with them yesterday morning !

Comments appreciated !

Yes it's all true even an OPC in full sales mode wouldn't lie about 2.9L [;)] And this is what it looks like if you can control yourself [:D][:D][:D] [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=407928]http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=407928[/link]

I visit my Dealer in Colchester on Sunday as I had been invited to look at the New Cayman S Sport which is a very nice car, very close to my Cayman 3.4 S that i have just brought. I was also informed reference to the change in engine size from 2.7 to the new 2.9 Litre & reference to the 3.4 s Sport has Xonon headlights as standard & the new S model may have Xonon as standard too, just like all the vision 2 model 997 has.

Thanks guys. With the rubbish p/ex price they are offering for my current Cayman against an 09 spec I think it will wait !

[link=http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/230322/porsche-cayman-leaked.html]http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/230322/porsche-cayman-leaked.html[/link] It's a Porsche double-whammy! Thanks to images that were leaked onto the internet when they appeared on Porsche's online car configurator, Auto Express can bring you the facelifted versions of the Cayman and Boxster. Set to go on sale next year, the new models get subtly tweaked exteriors with restyled headlights, new air intakes and sleek LED tail lights. However, under the skin, there are bigger changes. Out goes the old 2.7-litre flat-six cylinder engine and in comes a new 2.9-litre unit with 265hp and 300Nm of torque, up 20hp and 27Nm over its predecessor. As a result, expect a 0-62mph in around six seconds for the entry-level Cayman. A six-speed manual gearbox will be standard, but like the 911, Porsche's PDK twin-clutch gearbox will be available as an option and thanks to its snappier shift, expect a couple of tenths to be shaved off the 0-62mph time. Other options will include a limited-slip differential (LSD) for the first time too on the entry-level model. The range-topping S models gets a 320bhp direct injection version of the new 2.9-litre engine, capable of accelerating the Cayman S from 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds, with the PDK-version hitting the benchmark in five seconds dead. Not only do these improvement result in more performance, but they also help to reduce [link=http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/230322/porsche-cayman-leaked.html#]fuel consumption[/link] and emissions too. In addtion, expect a slightly restyled interior with new trim and upgrades to the navigation and entertainment systems.

ORIGINAL: Chris_911 Hmmm....so the 'new' 2.9 is not a direct injection set up?
Correct, the 2.9 will NOT have direct injection. Both cars come with the 6 speed gearbox (unless of course you go for PDK)

which presumably means that the base Cayman will lose one of its better features, namely that it is not in the top VED band. []
