Is this wrong?

the car looks good in the photos but they can always deceive. I think body kit is a taste thing on all cars. People pay lots more for it when its on a Turbo model but then this comes with "extra" of its own!
I paid several 1000 more than that for a 993 Tip only a few weeks ago although it has 30k less miles.
Good luck.

Theres nothing there u cant almost unscrew if anyone disliked it at resale ......................however wud suggest all in all its a £16K car ................and way off the mark .............................with mileage aprox 60 000 [ 30k less] is where it can all happen , age allowed for, so hopefully all the stuff was already done ?

Been both ends of this equation in last 18 months wirth 100 000 miler and 45 000 miler ...........................buy on condition , service record helps , get all the clues u can .

The 18" turbo twist wheels were not recommended by Porsche for fitting to a standard C2, and may cause issues with offset and scrubbing, if they are not fitted correctly. I notice it has the ruffled seats, which might indicate a high specced car.

I would be interested to learn what was fitted originally and what wasn't. You can learn all this from the label under the boot lid, and the Porsche option de-coder. That will tell you how the car left the factory, and what has been added.

Other than the above, if you are interested in the car, have a full inspection done, then haggle. There are lots of potential issues with a car of this age, so plenty of scope for bargaining. Price depends on history, what has been done and what needs doing.

That price isn't too far off the mark for a dealer is it? RS body kit is obviously a personal thing and I guess if OE it would have cost comeone a few £ks - if you like the look of that then may be worth the extra instead of paying for the kit later. Tip is not everyone's cup of tea and hence generally not worth as much as a manual, so £1k off that price possibly nearer to expected retail.

Cheers, Stewart

Er, they must be.
My car ('96 model year C2) has got genuine 18" Hollow Spokes ("Technology Design Wheels"), factory fitted[:D].
Option 408.

Perhaps you're thinking of the Cabriolet, which I don't think they recommend them on?[;)]

RS bodykit on the car may be a bonus for some - looks quite good - although not so nice on the inside (in my opinion), which is an important indicator as to care and use.

Looks like it may have been 033 lowered too, as is mine (factory).

Errrr, they must be
My 97 Cabrio was also supplied with the genuine 18" Hollow spokes - option 408.
But - I suspect that the steering rack brace is fitted to stop any issues. See Tech Info for more details!

Re original subject - beauty in the eye of the beholder! I think the car looks quite good and well balanced with the full RS kit - a closer in person inspection will obviously help! I looked at quite a few before I bought mine - it always amazes me though how dishonest (or forgetful) some people are when describing the car, either in adverts or on the phone.

Price is 'heavy', but any dealer would have to factor in a possible PX - cash buy may get the price down?

!!! I know 993's have lost a little in the recession but for £16k you would be getting a really rough 993, this car does not look like a rough one and I would say £19k is pretty fair, and the RS body kit looks really good in my opinion.

Like said above, the kit is a matter of opinion - and my opinion (having seen one in-the-flesh recently) is that it does not suit the car. I'm sure it looks good on a car set up for the track, with some sponsorship logos etc. But in midnight-blue on an otherwise normal car? Out of place. But if otherwise right (inspection etc), buy it and unbolt it! Each to his own...

I must be the odd one out here, I think it looks great! Nice kit, great colour. The only thing that would put me off is the Tiptronic box, but again, that's my opinion!

If you do buy the car and want to sell the kit, please drop me a line!

Good luck!

thanks guys, I agree its a personal thing and lucky for me I do like the look of the kit. Obviously the proof will be in seeing in the flesh, so will see on that. For the mileage and spec it is a bit overpriced, I am just waiting to find out if its a varioram or not and also if they are willing to take my boxster S as a p/x so will see.

Thanks for the replies though its really appreciated and yes I will definitely have an inspection done and bargain down if I can.

Sorry didn't realise they were an option on later cars. I knew they wouldn't fit to my early car without modification/strengthening of the steering rack. They do look nice though.

THE RUBBER GLOVES ARE WORN THRU THOUGH MO ...........................

At this level surely buy the car that turns u on ,in the best condition u can afford ...........the wheels work ok , the spoiler pack is a mod ,but can easily be removed ............its a little over the price u could pay elsewhere but Hey if u like it its all far from outrageous in any respect ......................cut a deal ,get a solid gty as its a trader ......................its meant to be fun is nt it ?

When u come to sell its going to over a 100 000 miles thats the biggest hang up , fair or not ..................

thanks Vic, I am going to look on Saturday, so fingers crossed. The issue for me is that at the price I can afford I am limited, and this is the first 993 that I have seen I really like so I am going to take the plunge if we can agree a price.

Excuse my ignorance but what is a "gty" I know I am going to regret asking that as it will be something obvious :)

Also could anyone recommend someone for a private inspection in the Brands Hatch area? At this mileage I think it would be wise.

Many thanks again....

Sorry my shortform for Guarantee........................dont know people ur way , Des/Carreraboy or Clubsport from 964 rs /993 rs registers both down there , sure they wud nt mind if u pm d them and asked

BTW with those big wheels check the struts have been changed ...........wheels will give it harder feel to ride , struts on these never known for longevity............

Good luck hope it turns out well...............

I've got a midnight blue with the RS bodykit. I like it! One thing to consider, some insurers don't like them.. Churchill quoted me a few years back, when I mentioned that I had the RS kit but it was factory fitted they added £1K to the price. haven't had a problem since though, Privilege didn't mind.

One thing you might not think of, if the car will be used a lot, those front scoops will collect stone-chips like you wouldn't believe, so be prepared to pay for a respray at some time. When you go and see it check the front scoops, if they aren't chipped then it's recently been painted, try and find out details of the paint job, if it wasn't done by a specialist (like Mark at 9M or an OPC) then it may suggest the previous owner cut corners. I only say may, receipts will tell you more than a paint job.

thanks for all the help guys. I am now a very excited 993 owner (yet to take delivery though). Everything checked out and the car looked even better in the flesh than in the pictures. The garage were really helpful, very friendly and professional. Shame they specialise in Ferrari's!

So sorry but expect more questions to follow once I get driving :)

looks superb to me-just the sort of thing i am looking for!!!
all the best with it and lets have more photos when its in your hands!!
