Issues found with potential car

Hi All,

I have seen a C2 which looks quite reasonable.

Few issues found and I would appreciate feedback:

1. surface rust colour - no actual rust under a rear wheel arch - could this be polished out.
2. some scuffing on boot handles
3. No reciepts - but was told scanned copy can be printed by porsche main dealer? Is this true?
Fair few stone chips on front/sides - it this typical of 70k plus miles?

Thanks,

Steve

1 and 2 needs to be seen in person to comment; what did the owner say about the scuffing on the handles (assuming this is the switches in the doorway as the boot itself doesn't have any handle, just a latch and open catch)?
3 Due to data protection, no OPC will give you the printout or copies. Tell him/her to get it if they are under his or her name before the sell; if the OPC(s) are willing to give the copies then it will only be up to the year it was owned by the person requesting the copy. Do the service stamps and dates look irregular?

If the car is driven then it will have stone chips especially on motorways or trackdays... you should be worried if there is no stone chips on a 70K+ miles 996...

The rust could just be underbody sealant overspray, especially if its rear arches as some OPCs reapply engine protection spray during service.

Boot release handles in door sill get scratched by shoes/boots getting in and out of the car - they can be removed and resprayed for a few hours work and £10 in paint and emery

Stone chips - yes, water based paints are soft, you can't avoid the chips i'm afraid. Any car that doesn't have a rash at that mileage has been resprayed - front end respray costs should be around £1k or less ??

No recepits ? - if you mean the invoices/recepit for services then not everyone keeps them or passes them on, just check the service history for regular maintenance by OPC/reputable independents, and ask seller to get the printout from Porsche which might give you more specific details of any extra items attended to during service periods.

I could have read your post wrongly, but i get the impressions the seller isn't telling the whole truth ?

My Porsche had all the stamps in the service book. Me being me wanted too make sure what was carried out at the time.. The Porsche dealer faxed me copy invoices but with the Customers name/address blocked out.

Hi Daveydoo,
What dealer did you approach and do you know which group they belong to?

As stated here:
http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=489838&mpage=1&key=&#489930

Lancaster Group OPCs will not share this details (spoke to Porsche East London yesterday); whereas Porsche Cars GB OPCs will (spoke to Porsche Hatfield) as long as you can prove you are the new owner but they do not have the record of any other groups... so if the car was services between various franchises you will not get the full invoice history.

Hi
The dealer was OPC Leeds. It took sometime to get the info but my wife can be very persistent!! Can't they all
Kind regards
David
