Italian Car for Sale.

Gents,

I recently sold my yellow car back to Herr Schmitz. The car was becoming a labour of love with 110,000 hard kms under its belt. As I now have a 968 Clubsport to use on the track I want to replace with a 'garage queen' that I can use on the road occasionally and polish eternally.

Found this car for sale. Before I start the 'due diligence' does anybody have any thoughts. Seems good value bearing in mind mileage. Long way to travel to view a pup though.

Cheers

Big Dave.

It seems too good to be true. If it's as good as it appears to be, 65kEUR is a bargain. You'll have to be quick, otherwise Mr Schmidt will beat you to it...

You big poof...

Don't think I can help you with a view on the car, but it does seem a steal.

However, what about getting the 968 Clubsport sorted for competition in the Club Championship. We could double drive [:)]

I have a mate with a similar motor in just that colour [&:]

At that price you would think people would be queuing up to buy it, but it's been for sale for months now. That doesnt make it a bad car, but i would do my homework first before jetting off to Italy.

Good luck!

Will Investigate the Italian car a bit more and report back. Going to phone the garage for a chat. It says they speak english and with my pigeon italian I am sure we will get to the bottom of it after I have ordered a beer when really I want the chassis number. I do think it is too good to be true but the outfit look quite professional.

Tim - I am entering the Championship next year and am currently looking at converting a Daimler hearse into a towcar/motorhome to keep you company. It works quite well in principal as you can just slide in an out when you want a kip. The bed is a bit hard but you can't fall out when drunk! Blacked the windows out last night with some paint I found in the garage. The wife says she doesnt know the dates of the events for next year yet but she will be busy. Did you use the same ploy with the ice cream van? P.S the double drive sounds interesting. Will you pay for the engine repairs if we buzz it at Castle Coombe......[&:][:(]

Dave - Yep all things considered having stumped up nigh on £7k for running repairs this year I felt my car was becoming a labour of love. I had some paint work done by one of the Countries leading Porsche restorers and whilst they did a fantastic job we just couldn't get a perfect match on the bit they painted. My car was in Hell Gelp and a real bugger of a colour. As I am a bit anal and Thomas did provide a nice return on my investment I felt it was time to look for a new car.

P.S read an interesting article recently about FIA log books. I always thought I might like to do something like the Tour Auto in my old car when it became eligable. The FIA have ruled that going forward all cars will need to be fitted with welded in cages if they don't already have papers. Looks like there won't be many 64's joining the ranks of the origional RS in the historic competition arena which is a shame.

Watch this space.

Interesting thought about tour auto, I thought we were all going to have follow Ricks approach (inspirational Rick btw). When does the RS become eligible? As I've got a clubbie, it would fit straight in.

My clubbie has the x bar on the door aperture which is a later after mod. Was advised this was to achieve FIA compliance in racing. So does this mean that even with a standard clubbie (N-GT) some additional scaffold is required to be welded. If so, not sure I would want to do this to a standard car.
It is also a real pain to get in and out of over the standard cage especially when cramp has set in during the Euro tour leg of a journey.

Thanks John, will send you an email tomorrow and pics!

I thought that the additional bar was there to specifically meet some german regulations - but that was just talk.... nothing to substantiate it.

I also thought that the clubsport was built to FIA specs (at the time) so that it would be N-GT capable out of the box, I would be suprised if they missed out an element on the roll cage (or would I? :-|)

HOWEVER, many cars (and cup cars) have the extra peice you mention. So who knows the truth on this one?

I've never been able to find the N-GT FIA specs from the period so am not sure. The FIA site has lots of detail on it, but I've never found this bit, perhaps too old now to be on the net.

As these cars start nearing dates where they can be used, this stuff will get all the more interesting for sure.

Hugh

The drivers side cross bracing was a 1993 change for the SuperCup series, my car went back to Weissach at the end of 1992 to have it added. It was a reg. for the 1993 season and not an FIA requirement in 1990 - 1992.

That rings true with my N-GT, this was used in 1993 24 HR Ring race. So it would have had the necessary mods.
Thanks for the clarification on The X bar.

Thanks folks, Barty mine was supposed to have been used for the 93 ADAC 24hr, but doesnt have the bars? Barty do you know what else your car did?
