It's a little quiet in here!

Noticed that it's a little quiet in here with not many postings of upcoming events whilst other regions seem to be quite proactive on the forum.

Is R5 using a different platform?

Dan

Hi Dan,
Apologies for my delay in responding to you but I’ve been too busy with my day job and other family commitments to get too involved with the forum recently
However, the rest of the R5 committee have been hard at work this year putting on loads of exciting events, drives and activities for our members.
We are one of only a few regions that host two club nights throughout the summer, which includes a pop up meeting in other locations across the region in addition to our usual venue at the Three Greyhounds.
Keep an eye out for the many events still to come at: https://www.porscheclubgb.com/regions-registers/regions/north-west/north-west/events
We also advertise our events via the MailChimp newsletter that Matt sends to all of the Region 5 members, in the Porsche Post magazine and our R5 Facebook Page.
Our regular Saturday drives are advertised on our much used and abused WhatsApp group which is kindly run by Jon Kenwell. There are also sometimes some mid week drives for those that are able to take part in the week.
Hope to see you at an event or drive soon.
Martin

Thanks for the reply Martin.

I'm on the WA group but not on FB so if most of the stuff is posted on there I won't see it and I don't have notification enabled for the WA group as it would be going off every 5 mins.

Personally, I think R5 events should be posted on here as well as other social media for maximum coverage however, I do get the feeling that unless you're a regular at events then some in the committee don't even acknowledge you or even an email. Twice I've emailed with suggestions for locations and ideas for events and in I've been asked to offer the club an open day at my local detailing store but haven't even had a 'thanks but no thanks' reply. Very disheartening. I fully understand that all those in the R5 committee are volunteers but from my perspective, and most probably many from the R5 WA group, it looks like a 'it's my train set and I'll run it how I want to' kind of region. It is by no way a dig at you personally Martin. You have been very helpful and supportive whilst I've been a PCGB member and I'm led to believe Jon does some good weekend runs although I've only managed to get on one.

The 'almost final straw' for me Martin, is when I asked in the WA group if I could join those fortunate enough to attend the Valley open day in August for the drive down (I already have a ticket and a vehicle pass) I was immediately told there was no extra places and that those 25 who had tickets would be contacted separately with directions. A very simple 'of course you can join us for the drive down but unfortunately you can't join us on the PCGB R5 parking' would be fine for me, so I'll go to Valley on my own and wave to everyone as I go past.

It really does leave a sour taste in ones mouth I'm afraid.

Thank you for your comments Dan,
I am genuinely sorry that you feel so dissatisfied with what are the best intentions and efforts of our hardworking team of unpaid volunteers, who, I can assure you do their very best to put on as many regional events as possible, for as many members as possible.
Sadly, we are not super humans and we don’t always get it right and it certainly seems that we can’t please all of the people all of the time, but you should bear in mind that we have feelings, day jobs and other family commitments too.
I have asked Matt Staines our regional organiser to respond to your post.

Hi Dan,
I'll let Matt address the specific issue of RAF Valley. However, I think we need to be clear that, part from the Saturday Drive outs on WhatsApp, the lodestone for advising members of events is the calendar on the club website and the email shots from the PCGB database. We nearly always add in FB posts but there is no means of booking events via FB and clicking on "going", "not going" etc. has zero bearing on who attends events. It's merely a subsidiary method of communicating out to members about upcoming things they may be interested in. We recognise that FB is a subset of the R5 population. The WhatsApp drive out events are by their nature a little less formal and are managed outside of the club system but access to the group is clearly advertised via the R5 regional pages so we don't wish or seek to exclude anyone on the basis of their media preferences. However, I think that in today's world there has to be a minimum presumption that members will self-serve in terms of checking the calendar published elsewhere on the PCGB site and well maintained by Matt and Neil.
Thanks,
Simon

Hi Dan,

Sorry fore the late reply, all Region 5 events are announced to all members at the same time on email, they are also ALL added onto the Region 5 section of the website for all members to access. They mostly all go on our private facebook group, unfortunately the forum does lag behind on occasions.

I remember your email about the detailing visit and replying to it, if I missed the second email then my apologies. In terms of the RAF Valley visit, any comment about members not being able to join us directly is due to the RAF security we have to go through for access to this working RAF live site NOT for any R5 reason.

Sounds like you'll be at the RAF Valley day, I'll happily have a chat with you there.
All the best, Matt.
