How do,

My car (carrera 1994) has just had the Chip Wizard Treatment with Wayne in Rochdale (as recommended from here!!)

Here are the results....

Before

Torque Tmax 249.3lbft at 5290rpm speed 138.6mph
Pmax 266.9bhp at 156.3mph at 5960rpm

After

Torque Tmax 267.5 lbft at 5330rpm 140.1mph
Pmax 295.2bhp at 159.4mph at 6070rpm.

Will get the curves scanned in tomorrow and hopefully post.

Car feels so much smoother under acceleration...power band appears to last longer and its more of a constant pull through the rev range (this non varioram). It also feels alot smoother when decelerating then accelerating again...something to do with leaving the injectors on (so Wayne said)

He highlighted a binding rear brake and he even tooke the temps of the rear disks. The remainining power runs done without using the brakes...after they had cooled down!!!

Its nice to here the words "the car is sweet!!" from a guy who has been all over the world tuning GT2s!!!

I was in the garage nearly 6 hrs!!!....and boy can it get cold in there with all the fans and extractors!!!

Wayne is top bloke a little chaotic..but very professional if that makes sense....

For info he had a Ruf Cab in too....nice car

All in all a great experience...including a few winces as the speed hit 177mph and what a noise!!!

Boy do I recommend a trip to this bloke........ note never met him before...and he can talk a glass eye to sleep....

and he can talk a glass eye to sleep

[:D][:D][:D] - too right, he loves cars nearly as much as he knows them eh!?

nearly 300bhp from a non vario ram is superb isn't it - was your engine standard before the remap Chris?

Your comments on how the car feels is the same as mine really, generally more muscular throughout the rev range - my car can dig itself out of holes now with the torque which would have required a change down before. Since the remap my 4S has lost nearly 50kg and this combined with 282lbs and 306bhp it now feels like a 993 should - ie it flys! [:)]

A couple of questions

Dayzero - does this involve the burning and fitting of a new chip or does it re-map the existing ecu .... hope this question makes sense as I am a little light on knowledge as to how they physically do this.

Kenny - what did you do to loose 50kg?

Ian.

Here's the weight loss I did Ian - I don't have the individual savings to hand but they total to around 50kg.

hollow spoke turbo alloys
rsr's
LWF and Clutch
spare and tools removal

I plan to put the spare and tools back in when I fit odyssey pc925 battery and 100 cell cats - I think these 2 combined weight the same as spare and tools.

Car looks completely standard though I can really feel the weight saving - any further would start to get harder to reverse but there are such bigs gains to be made from deleting sunroof and fitting GT3 seats.

Don't think I'll do the sunroof but if and when I can afford I'd like the GT3 seats I think.

Does anyone know the weight difference between the sports seats and the hardback sports seats?

And Kennyboy - don't forget that the spare is in place during crash testing (AFAIK) so forms part of the safety cell ..just a thought

Remap results sound very impressive.
In a C2/4 S...I wouldn't worry about trying to get it much lighter,,,,,it isn't likely to make too much difference....what with the gearing as well................ask Maurice.......he has now seen the leicht [:D]

Process goes something like this....

1. Removes ECU box
2. Removes Factory chip
3. Replaces ecu on extender cable and plugs laptop into ecu chip socket.
4. Does repeated test runs on the dyno adjusting parameters as he goes. (Fueling/Timing/Ignition Maps/Injection Timings/Resonance Flap???? etc and prob a million and one other variables).
5. On completion he burns a new chips and replaces the factory one. Puts it all together and away you go.

Note... he also investigates any issues that arise and lets you now the probs....I had a rear brake binding at high temp..

Not cheap though ÂŁ400 + the nasty VAT...he was working on my car for approx 6hours though.

Hope this helps

It was a great afternoon Maurice,,,,I think the nice chap with the RUF was quite suprised as well [:D]

Thanks for the pics [:)]

Yeah thanks Richard I've read this too - hence I'm putting them back as soon as I can lose it elsewhere.

As someone who's done it - I can say it does make a difference, quite a large one: 196.6bhp per tonne as standard compared to 218.6 per tonne now feels a lot better... I'm determined to get a 4S to perform - I'll get there somehow []....

Kennyboy, sounds like a decent improvement,,,,you should bring it along on a trackday to show Maurice and myself how a lightened 4wd performs [;)]

I'd love to Paul - would be great to see your car, Maurices etc on the track....and to meet the people too!. Just as soon as I can afford Bilstein M030 I'll be there. [8D] (that smiley is meant to represent enthusiasm yet lack of funds).

Also (sorry Chris a bit OT) - are S model ratios different from NB cars then? I've always thought mine felt sluggish in the low gears and always put it down to weight.

Hi I have been trying to contact Wayne for about a month now---left messages on his mobile and other phone--do you have a suggestion how I can get hold of him---suggestions greatly received.

Steve

Contact for Wayne - 07977004476 or 01706651000 Not the most organised man in Nato....but returned calls when I left messages.

Steve,

He can be difficult to get hold of, it took me a couple of weeks, when I was dealing with him for whatever reason I found that he's most likley to answer between 9-10 in the morning? Here's the number I have 07977004476, keep trying it will be worthwhile!

What is the downside to chipping?
I don't understand why the original car was not set up to this extra performance, or is it just that wear and tear takes the engine away from the spec in the electronics, so the electronics needs to be adjusted to match the worn engine? Which is why every car need to be done individually?

The main downside as I see it (uninformed opinion alert [:D]) is that you are removing some of the engines tolerances to unfavourable conditions - high air temps, low air pressure, bad batches of fuel etc.
Porsche developed the engine mapping to take into account all the markets that the car would be sold in - the US for instance you could potentially drive the car in conditions varying from Death Valley heat, to 9000 ft up in the mountains in winter.
In the main, in UK weather/temp conditions with good quality fuel the norm, this should not be too much of an issue
You are, however, relying on the expertise of the tuner as to how much "tolerance" there is left.

Done already.............................its called a T..U..R..B..OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Burrow just for info...

All the fuel maps for the rest of world conditions are on the same chip....Wayne software marks the correct fuel maps for uk cars and only works with these for the re-map... (there are hundreds of maps on the chip). There appears to be two settings for each distinctive market......low speed and high speed maps. The chip appears to be designated to the specific market the car is sold too so it roughly knows the ambient conditions it will be subjected too.

So could poss be an issue if i take it to Death Valley etc..... but hopefully not in Chedder Gorge.....

Please note I'm not much of a techy and the above is what i could grasp from wayne whilst my car was in there...

hope helps
