It's finally working

After nearly 5 months off the road since the waterpump failed and bent four valves, the S2 is finally back up and running and started first time. I am sooo glad I decided not to break it, it's like been twelve again. I have also taken the opportunity to respray the flwheel housing which attaches to the dizzycap and rocker cover. I was debating on what colour to paint it as I couldn't quite bring myself to find that strange metallic Morris Marina beige that it seemed to be, when a colleague at work who owned an S2 nearly twenty years ago gave me their old sales brochure. The pictures showed both covers to be bright Silver. So I went and bought some Simonitz Silver Engine Enamel I am a little dissapointed on the Rocker Cover but that was due to the original state of it and I suppose lack of prep by me, I will have to look for another or get this one blasted first and then try it again, the other bits look great though. The underside of both covers are a silvery colour and I wonder if age and heat has discoloured them from the original colour of silver. I will try and post some pics tomorrow but not having Office 2003 I haven't got picture manager so it takes a while messing with them to post. Having been waiting for the weather to change I took some time off work and then it p***ed it down yesterday but have still spent the past 3 days finishing it off and although i am knackered I am well chuffed. Jobs completed are.
Fitted new Balance, Cam belt and rollers.
New Waterpump, thermostat and seals.
Cylinder head cleaned and polished.
4 exhaust valves replaced and then the remainder decoked and reground in to improve compression, with valve stem seals replaced (No more blue smoke).
Cam chain and slipper pad changed.
Pistons heads cleaned up of carbon.
All top end gaskets replaced.
Injector seals replaced.
Oil flushed and changed.
Power Stearing fluid changed.
Brakes bled and changed brake fluid.
Gear Oil changed.
AFM cleaned.
Engine block and Inlet manifold thoroughly gunked and scrubbed clean. I am going to tax it tomorrow for the beginning of April and come the first it's gonna get some hammer from my right foot. This gives me time to hopefully change the dash and try and refurb the old blue one for Ant B's interest if nothing else and then address the half inch of water in the boot.

Dave, the half inch of water in the boot will be leaking hatch pin seals. Get a new pair from your OPC and your boot will be nice and dry. They are always knackered, every 944 I get in to work on gets a new set!

I just wanted to add my congratulations on getting your car back on the road and to say well done for saving a car that might otherwise have been crushed! very pleasing to hear another one has been saved.

Thanks John I just now have to figure out the strange whistling sound which seems to be coming from under the inlet manifold it sounds like an old kettle boiling, the pipes are connected ok but I wonder if one of them has perished or has a small hole hence the noise.
