Wehaaaaay!!

I've got me one. Red '89 944 lux with aircon, 16 stamps in the service book and enough bills to paper my lounge with. Very happy bunny indeed!! PCGB membership winging its way over the information superhighway as we speak. Now can anyone help with......?

Is there a workshop manual? Haynes or similar

Clock on dash not working is it a battery job or am i changing the unit?

Gear knob and gaiter frayed and want to replace with original. Can anyone reccommend any good breakers in the north west of england or if not in my region anyone who does mail order but is reliable?

Are there any subtle mods that people can reccomend? i was thinking along the lines of a K&N filter (or similar) to help it breathe a little easier.

any help on the above would be greatly appreciated folks

Congrats!

There is a Haynes manual - but it is rather "light" in coverage, and only really covers the earlier model,.
But it is cheap, and will still be useful [:D]

Clock is a frequent problem - a search on threads here might throw up a solution (or non-solution[&o])

The gear knob/gaiter might be obtained from Simon Butterworth at Porschapart

Hi Zeb

And congrats on your new purchase.
Clocks do tend to fail, but unfortunately you will need to source a new one ( I believe the are horribly expensive from OPC) try the Porsche breakers around. A few below:
www.porsche-apart.co.uk

or these

www.prestigeparts.co.uk
www.porscheshop.co.uk
www.type-911.co.uk

Here for upgrade bits for your car:
www.essentialstyling.com
www.promaxmotorsport.com

I am sure more people will give you sites and ideas but these are all worth keeping hold of.

cheers

Well done.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Haynes manual is rubbish - don't bother unless you can get it cheap. [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Clock usually the display physically breaks (you'll see a discouration) but might be something else I guess.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Gear gaiter kits from Prestige Parts are top quality. You can sometimes get them cheaper on eBay where they're sold by kpporsche. Don't waste your time looking for a good second hand one.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I'll leave some other Lux guys to suggest mods.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Well done...what a fine choice. Mods try Andrew Sweetenham who runs Promax. The details are above, recommend for starters...K and N panel filter. Promax performance chip (You can fit these yourself with a bit of concentration!), plugs, leads and rotor arm also all from Andrew, and if you want to help make the engine last forever(?) he does an american billet racing filter and RP engine oil. Whole lot will be a good few hundred pounds but hey!

You might consider driving her a while with no mods so that you can fully appreciate the differences they make.

Welcome to the lux...finest of the 944s...(runs and ducks!)[:)]

Well done Zeb [:)]

I echo Keiths comment. Leave it as it is for the time being. Get it checked over properly and maybe tested on a dyno just to see how sound the engine is in the first place. It's no good heaving tons of power mods on an engine that is basically out of tune in the first place.

Prestige Parts is the best place for gear gaitors.

If you can find a S/H clock you will be verrrrrrry lucky as everyone snaps them up

Amoungst my hoard of junk, I have a spare clock lying around in my laundry room (as you do) which came out out of a car I changed the console on and works perfectly. Have no idea if same as yours - if you put a picture on here will let you know if same.

Noticed on ebay a lot of workshop manuals on cd for computer for sale. No idea what they are like but real cheap so might be worth trying.

Hey and welcome to 944 ownership :)

For workshop manuals there is alot of information online - including www.rennlist.com, www.clarks-garage.com and you should be able to get the workshop manual in pdf's from www.cannell.co.uk.

Cheers
