Thanks !
I met James at Oli's house a couple of years ago - so have sent him a PM.
All being well I might be back into (working) 944 ownership.

I would think its probably down to a blown gasket, sure you'll find out soon enough.

have say I know there is a split between owners as to whether the grye interior works, but I love it, especially in a black car

Yes, that is James Gould's old car. I saw it a few times, and drove it once, and recall it as being a very nice example indeed. It was quite rusty when James first bought it, but he paid royally to have a top-notch job done on the bodywork, and it showed. I seem to recall him lamenting that he paid about £4k to buy the car and then more than the purchase price in repairs and improvements while he owned it. He had a BMW 3-series at the time as well, and I seem to recall that he sold both cars to buy a more modern BMW Z4.

Why the head came off is a good Q, but if they did reskim it and lap the valves in properly before the re-attached it then it can only be a benefit; regrinding valves on high mileage cars is usually a good idea for compression. It would be worth seeing the receipt for this.

Yes, the grey interior is not quite to my taste, but don't let that put you off (what certainly used to be) a great example. And, at that price, it's a steal.

Got an email from James last night - also from the seller - the head was done after an MOT advisory.
Going to see it on Friday !

MOT advisory for a potential head gasket problem ??????????????????

Why would that be?

Colin,

Great news! Yes, I have heard from James too, and he sounds to be well. In fact, I must reply ...

Keep us posted with the outcome from the viewing. If it's as good as it was, it would be a great car to own.
