...without damage.

A recent thread on the forum reminded me of a 'handy hint' from the Rennlist US boys....

Buy a pack of ice hockey pucks and use them between the jack or axle-stands when raising the car to prevent damage to the underside.

Ice Hockey Pucks

No affiliation, etc...

Brilliant! Have managed with bits of wood for years - a much neater solution.

Don't give a puck.......[;)]

Can you imagine the state of the jacking points on my car after seven consecutive years of racing!!!!

ditto my car. Was very suprised at how straight the underneath looks, very little curb damage......hummm, must have got so bad its been replaced huh!

I know that ice hockey pucks are designed to take a fair wack from a stick. But what are they made of and do they take compressive loads of around 245kg per axle ? I would not want one shattering on me, as I would I dare say, shatt myself.[:D] They do sound a great idea though and much better than wood.

very hard rubber composite. I tried it a few years back - problem is my cars are too low so even with a low height jack I still need to drive on a plank of wood to use a puck. Tried to cut one in half (latitudinally) gave up! Would need a band saw!

So I went back to a piece of softwood - if it is good enough for protyre...

You could drive a tank over an ice hockey puck and it would emerge unscathed.

In fact thinking about it the rubber pads they put on tank tracks are probably made out of spare hockey pucks.
