Jack?

Guest

New member
Hi,
I need to get hold of a bottle jack which is less than 140mm tall.
As my car has side skirts and is lowered I cant use the usual jack.
Any ideas where I can get a bottle jack this small?
Most of the ones on sale are around £158mm +

No idea but suggest you may try the mg Midget site???[:D].
Sorry having a bad day here, serious suggestion next....
buy a standard size one and dig a hole in your garage floor to compensate.
You can buy the pick axe and spade at B&Q.
May be an idea to put a base in the hole..whilst at B&Q, get some ballast.

Carry a small piece of 2x4 which you can drive onto [:D] That will give you the clearance to jack away to your heart's content.

Amo,
I don't think bottle jacks are that great an idea for cars, especially nice ones like ours. The standard jack can tilt to accomodate the movement of the car as its raised, its base being a relatively stable 'T' bar shape, and a trolley jack can move on its wheels.Because bottle jacks have no compliance to the base they can become unstable with the car raised, I really wouldn't entertain the idea..... Join the AA and let them sort things should the need arise.

Weber do a low entry bottlejack which is 120mm high - click here to see a pic.

I would also recommend getting some folding axle stands, as any small-based jack - scissors or bottle - is a pretty dangerous tool IMO. Have had my share of bottle jack nightmares, too old for all that stuff now. We have some folding Sealeys which we keep in the car. They are pretty cheap for the size of the sticky situation they could get you out of or prevent in the first place. They are very good quality too, Sealey stuff not always the best but these are ace.

Cheers, JG

Wow the jack is £196+VAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think I'll rely on RAC.[:-]

What is a Sealey?[8|]

Hi Amo,
I presume you would require the jack because of fear of a puncture.
Well why not use the new high performance Punctureseal prevention treatment it would cost about 80 quid to do all 4 tyres on your car!

Ive got it in my Pilots and have had no probs with it, what price safety and peace of mind eh!

If you would like to know more about Punctureseal please Email me.

Cheers

Glenn

Weber make the best jacks so they are dear to start with, but cheaper in the long run as it's not what they cost to buy, it's the cr@p they save you going through when things get messy!

Sealey are tool manufacturers.

There's a pair of Draper folding axle stands here; only £13 - bargain. I paid twice that for mine and they are more or less identical.
