Jacking points?

A somewhat strange request but wonder if you can help. I want to get some jacking points made to weld onto an earlier shell and from memory the 3.2 has decent ones ... one at each corner of the floor if I am correct. I know you can't buy them hence wanting to make something similar.

Anybody got pictures of them they could post? I am interested both in pictures showing the design and pictures showing the location on the floor.

Thanks.
Ian.

I have a 3.2 and a 930 and have no idea what you are referring to.

I can take pics if it helps you as my 3.2 is on axle stands...

I have been told to jack up the rear of my car via the crankcase (none of my cars have magnesium crankcases). I use a piece of plywood to cushion the load. With the engine removed I use the roll bar mounts on the chassis.

As for the front I tend to use the torsion bar mounts at the very front of the car. I use cardboard so as not to scratch the paint / cushion the load.

Maybe you are referring to the 964 ?

Perhaps I am mistaken. Sounds like I have confused you all. I know 964s have different jacking points, no longer using the single square bar in the center, but they are a somewhat different shell.

I thought later 3.2s also had something similar which being based on an earlier shell would be more appropriate for what I need . Perhaps Clubsports have it?

I'll ask around and see if any 3.2s should have this.

You're not mistaken there is 4 strengthened points for lifting on my car 1988 carrera, as well as the standard jacking points for use with the factory jack.

2 up front on the floor pans and two at the back on the chassis rail near the torsion bar/ARB

Don't have any pictures though

Thanks for confirming what I thought. I have also done some asking around this morning and it seems later 3.2 shells have these four points in addition to the standard jacking point. Seems they were added to allow the OPCs to raise the cars on their car lifts.

Could you describe the location in more detail?

On the rear are they directly under the torsion bar mounts (ie slightly in front of the ARB mounts) or further forward than that?

On the front are they at the edge of the floor where the front wing starts? Are they in front or behind the A post for the door? I assume they are as far to the outside edge as possible (ie under the sill).

Ian.

Think these started to appear the same time the G50 was introduced, and continued into the 964.. My 87 has the points you are talking about. Because of the side skirts I have fitted to the porsche I actually use them along with a scissor jack from a 964, which locates into the hole in the jacking point...

Here are a couple of pics of the rear jacking point, didn't manage to take any of the front, as it was difficult to get the camera in, but the are basically right on the egde of the floor pan moulding.

I'll do that thanks. I'll bring my camera as well. I'll PM when I sort out when I'll be down next but it'll probably be in a week or so. We have met at an R8 meeting before I believe.

Thanks again all of you for helping.

Ian.

Even on older 3.2s this is the place to jack it up. It might not have these extra bit's welded on but is more than strong enough. Not sure you need them really so I wouldn't priotritise looking ofr a shell with them. If this is what you are doing.
