About to send wheels away for reburb and get new tyres fitted at the same time ,the company that is doing the job advised that I get them to refit and balance the lot that way no damage to the alloys .The question I want to ask is what is the best way for me to do this ,put the car on axle stands as I will have to wait 4 days for the job to be done ,where do you place the jack I take it you cannot use the jack provided ,would it require to lift from the front and back or from the side with a trolly jack the car will be in a garage so no one will be near it where is the jack points if lifting from rear and front ,or sugest a differant approach .

Thanks for the link to the article. Very interesting. I have always just used the Porsche Tool when jacking but have never done any DIY work that needs stands.
However, I anticipate that I will be changing the frond discs and pads myself in the near future, so will want to secure the car on front axle stands whilst I do the work.
Does this mean that there is no other jacking point at the front that can be used for a trolley jack, leaving the standard points for placing the axle stands?

I've never had my 996 up on axle stands - one of the benefits of having a friend with a 2-post lift! On my 993 I used the method as shown in the Renntech article - jack up the car from the rear points, high enough to get the axle stands under the front points, and then lower the rear.
If you look under the sills you will see a round jacking point at the front and rear. Be careful not to catch the aircon pipes on the driver's side, as they are quite close.

I can only offer 944 advice but it might be the same.. When I put my car on four axel stands to remove the wheels I jack it up on the larger cental jacking point (mid sill) then place stands under the front & rear points mentioned above. Repeat for both sides but watch the stands carefully as you jack up the 2nd side because sometimes it can slip slightly on the stands.

If your based anywhere near Dorset, i have a spre set of wheels which you could borrow, save any chance of it falling of its blocks/ axle stands

I have not made any arrangements to have the wheels refurbed. but hope to deal with this shortly. I live near to Basingstoke so Dorset is not to far. If I could borrow the wheels I would not drive the car, as I have another car which I use day to day.
