did you lot watch james mays toy storys ? hes got a red A reg 3.2 carrera and he even said it was his favorate car he's ever owend:) good advertisement for our cars.

He made a programme about "the eighties" a couple of years ago and the obvious choice of car to represent the decade in all it's excess was a Guards Red 3.2. The researchers found one at Paul Devya's, used it for the programme on the Saturday and the captain, like Victor Kyam, liked it so much that he returned on the Monday to buy it. There was a rumour going round recently that he was selling it, but I think that was actually his Triumph 2000 that he unloaded recently - which is good as he is seen as a keeper of the faith.

The selling 'rumour' came from comments he made himself in his Telegraph column - said he was considering a Ferrari 308 but to get one he would need to sell the 911.

The first program about airfix was even better because there was lots of footage of him driving the 3.2 [:)]

Hoping there will be even more of it next week since the prog is all about Scalextric [:D]

Taken from Sept '08 Independant Paper Interview by Charlotte Philby entitled....My Secret Life: James May, TV presenter, age 45

Born in Bristol on 16 January 1963, he worked at Autocar magazine until he was sacked for inserting a hidden message in one issue, which read:

"So you think it's really good, yeah? You should try making the bloody thing up. It's a real pain in the arse." [:D]

I drive... The one I use the most is my Fiat Panda. If I could have only one, I would say my Fiat Panda, though I also have a Porsche 911 and a Rolls-Royce.

Greetings one and all
I'm not sure JM's car is a 3.2, 'cause it has a aerial mounted on the front offside wing. And I'm sure all 3.2's had the aerial in the front windscreen. He's got one of the last SC's ?
Can anyone else confirm this or shall I now put on my best anorak?
Cheers
Alex

[:D]What an incredibly interesting question - ah the irony as the counterpart of everything that James May stood for. To add insult to injury, [8|], the likelihood is that Mr May's carrera 3.2 is a MODEL 1984, produced between August 1983 and july 1984. Model year 1984 3.2 carrera's came with the SC type seats, the 3 spoke steering wheel, the areal *not* embedded in the windscreen (that was from model year '85 onwards + the newer design seats + 4 spoke steering wheel) but on the wing.

Apart from that, I bet you that exactly those 80-ties carrera's will be the flavour of the day in 5 years time, when the schoolboys of the 1980-ties have the disposable income to go back to their roots.

I am now going to look ironically whilst giving my turbo a wash.

I know James May bought a car from 911 Virgin in Uxbridge a while back, wonder if this is the same car?

Hi The James May 911 was owned by John one of the Norfolk region members I think it was one of the first of the 3.2 model! If I see him this week I will ask! Berny.

Regardign teh question of JM's car, i think it might well be a SC, if you look at the steerign wheel in the footage it a SC variety, unless they were carried over into the Carrera era.,

James Mays 911 is identical to my 1984 model.Same interior, everything!!
He got the car from Paul Devyea. In fact i was going to view the car but he beat me to it!
It only had 40k odd miles on it.
I ended up getting one the same but with 80k miles(although mint like his one).

Andrew.

Ah the fog lights, what a give away![] Didn't clock those, tucked under the front bumper. Well spotted.
So a very nice early 3.2.[:D]
Of course one of us could have rung JM and asked ? Anyone got his mobile number?
