Member News
Welcome to new members Graham Prescott (Christleton - 996 C2 Cab.), Andy Geoghegan (St Helens), Gareth Jones (Hyde - 996 C2) and Robert & Jean Finegan (Rochdale - 924S Le Mans).  Your fellow R5 members and I look forward to meeting you at a Club Night or one of the other events that are organised for you.

Next R5 Event
The next R5 event is our 12 January Club Night, at The Deanwater Hotel, when, as previously announced, we are experimenting with a New Year celebration evening in lieu of our customary Christmas Dinner.  (See also "Forthcoming Events" below.)

Invitation to Jasmine Porschalink UK
R5 members have been invited, together with R18 and TIPEC North West members, to an Open Evening at Jasmine's premises in Nelson on Wednesday 18 May 2010.  A complimentary hot, buffet supper and drinks are planned, followed by a couple of interesting speakers, free car checks and a charity raffle.

I appreciate that Nelson is a longish drive for many R5 members, made worse by commuter traffic, and that that might deter some of you from attending.  Hence, I would be grateful to know now who would in principal attend this event, so that hosts Sue and Brian Goff can plan accordingly.

2011 Calendar of Events
Our 2011 Calendar of Events will be available shortly on the Club website.  At this time of the year activities have yet to be arranged for quite a few Club Nights and the destinations for all but one of the scheduled Summer Sunday drives have still to be identified. Accordingly, I would welcome any suggestions for a Club Night presentation or other activity, or for a Summer Sunday drive. (See also Help Needed below.)

"Porsches at Arley Hall 2011" "" Display Cars
The main display at our 2011 event at Arley Hall on 11 September will be entitled "Porsches in Competition" and, not surprisingly, comprise a collection of Porsche race, rally, sprint and hillclimb cars. Hence, I would be grateful to hear over the next few months from any member who has such a car that she or he would like to display, or who knows of a car whose owner might be willing to put it in the display.

Help Needed
Running the Region and organising a programme of events on the scale that R5 has put on for the past several years takes a lot of time and effort. Last year I was helped with that task by a small number of members, each of whom took on the responsibility for organising one of the Summer Sunday drives, and, of course, by the much larger group of members who helped - mainly on the day - with the inaugural "Porsches at Arley Hall" event.

Needless to say, then, I would be grateful if a few more members would volunteer this year to take on themselves, or at least help with, the organisation of some of the smaller events. In addition, I am sure you will not be surprised to learn that we will need a lot of help to run "Porsches at Arley Hall 2011", and I will in due course be seeking commitments from members to help with specific tasks. In the mean time I would ask you to note that we have to do all the setting-up for that event on the day and, accordingly, a task force of about a dozen members will be needed at Arley at daybreak in order to have everything ready for the scheduled 1030 opening.

Cholmondeley Pageant of Power
Last year's inaugural PCGB stand at Cholmondeley Pageant of Power (CPOP) attracted little member support, due in part, no doubt, to the CPOP organisers' demands for all display cars to be on site by 0800 and remain throughout the day.  It also made demands on my time when I was already busy with the arrangements for other R5 activities, making the effort involved disproportionate to the number of members who attended.  Accordingly, I do not intend to organise a PCGB presence at CPOP this year.  That said, should any R5 member wish to take on that task, please let me know ASAP so that I can effect the necessary introduction to the CPOP organisers.

Will be delighted to help again this year - both with setting up and with gate as I did last year ( thanks, by the way, for your comments in PP re. the work the gate volunteers did last year - was hectic at times! ).

Please advise what you need in due course.
