Member News
Welcome to new members Peter Bradshaw (Sale - 996 C4), Rachel Roberts (Prenton - 997 C4 Cab), Stephen & Jack Metcalf (Northwich - 997 GT2) and Mark Shuker (Nantwich). I hope we will see some of you at our New Year Dinner on Wednesday next week, and that as many of you as possible will attend the 8 February Club Night (see below). Notwithstanding, if you are unable to be present on either of those occasions, your fellow R5 members and I look forward to meeting you at one of our events later in the year.

Next R5 Event
The next R5 event is our January Club Night, on Wednesday next week (11 January) at the Deanwater Hotel, starting at the earlier time of 1930. (See FORTHCOMING R5 EVENTS below for more information.)

2012 Calendar of Events
The initial version of our 2012 Calendar of Events is attached to this Newsletter. As you will observe, activities have yet to be arranged for a couple of Club Nights in the second half of the year and the destinations for all but two of the planned Sunday outings have yet to be determined. Accordingly, I would welcome any ideas members might have for making good those gaps. (See also Help in 2012 below.)

Help in 2012
Given the potential difficulties with the future running of the Region referred to below, I hope you will understand why I feel the need to repeat last month's appeal for more members to share the load, with the Committee, of organising events. Without such help there will simply be fewer opportunities for you to enjoy using your Porsches in the company of other R5 members.

FORTHCOMING R5 EVENTS
11 January: Club Night
As previously announced, our first Club Night of 2012 will be our New Year Dinner at the regular Deanwater Hotel venue, where we will gather at 1930 in readiness to sit down at 2000. There will be a special choice of fare, comprising a selection of popular dishes from the regular Tudor Bar Restaurant menu, at a fixed price of £15pp for a starter, main course and coffee, or £18pp with dessert (inclusive in each case of a gratuity for the staff). If you have yet to book, there is still time, but I must know - preferably by e-mail - by Sunday (8 January) if you wish to attend, so as to be able to alert the Hotel management to the number of members for whom they will be catering; and you will need to send me a deposit of £10.00pp.
Please also note that: a. we are trying to make the Dinner more of an occasion by requesting participants to dress more formally than for ordinary Club Nights, with all gentlemen members wearing jackets; and, b. the Regulars Rewards draw will take place following the meal, so don't forget to bring along all those cloakroom tickets you received at the Club Nights you attended during 2011.

8 February: Club Night
At The Deanwater Hotel, starting at 2000; this evening will be devoted to consideration of how the Region is to be organised following my retirement at the end of April. As I have already announced, as yet it has not been possible to identify an eligible R5 member willing to take over the role of Regional Organiser (RO) and come 1 May only two members of the current Committee will still be in office. Accordingly, we need to determine how the Region is to be run thereafter and also to recruit new members to the Committee, and for that process to be both effective and democratic the views of as many members as possible need to be taken into account. So please do attend and help us to find a way for R5 to continue to operate.
The Club organisational structure requires each Region ordinarily to be run by an RO, not least because there has to be a single point of contact for communications from both the Directors and the staff at Cornbury House, and likewise one person has to accept responsibility for accounting for expenditure from the Region's annual financial allocation. That said, whilst it is clearly preferable for the Region to identify a new RO, there is some scope for flexibility. It is widely recognised that the role of RO is onerous, and one way to ease that burden is for two members to share it, either jointly or as RO and Assistant RO. Another option is for the Region to be run for an interim period by the Committee, without an official RO, in the hope that one of the Committee members will in due course accept the role of RO. Whatever way forward is chosen, the aforesaid organisational requirements have to be met.
