Off topic but does anyone know how Jason is getting on with his CSL Build?
It will be fantastic if his CS was anything to go by
Rgds Shawn

Yes its an ongoing build.
I was at his house the other weekend and looking at the car, or should that be shell...
Itl be a REALY nice car when finished, but its going to take a ,,,,,, while..[;)][:D].
The amount of research that has gone into it is staggering....
Im sure he,ll be along sometime soon to update you on its progress....[:D][;)]

Shawn, nice collection of cars you have. How do you find the X5? What's the build quality like, and consumption? Have considered a 35d version.

e9 project has been on hold for 6 months due to an extension on the house, another on the garage, e30 racing and work - all in that order. Another problem is that I tend to buy things as they appear due to rarity but unfortunately many have three zero's on the end, for example,

Original aluminium bonnet
Triple 45 DCOE's and manifolds
Now have 3x dogleg boxes
...and even more diffs, pinions and crown wheels
Spare set of rear beam and arms
Manual LHD steering box

The list goes on and on.

The shell has had c700 hours metalwork development, planning, fabrication, remedial work, modification etc. It has been thoroughly reworked, new floors, bulkhead, boot floor, sills, inner wings and so on. LOTS of modification; fully seam welded, turreted, 4x arches cut away and tubbed and a huge amount of magic sprinkled on it that's not for disclosure here [;)]

Unfortunately I missed my ecoating date so need to get that sorted. Although the metalwork was completed a couple of problems have been identified with the cage which I need to sort (installed by a large reputable company just before I bought the car but found to have a couple of fundamental issues)

I have a whole lot of parts that are very modified, engines, boxes, diffs etc so am currently considering buying an e12 to act as a development mule. The collection of bits I am amassing, including duplicates will fit on the old 5 series. Adhoc looking now but might get more serious later this year.

In anycase, a couple of important things, photos!

The X5 4.0d build quality is very good and slightly improved over the 2008 35d se we last had, but not to same standard as my last 535d sport which was the best I have ever seen, the car is sorely missed by me[:(]
The latest 8 speed box and extra power in the X5 4.0d is pretty impressive, always in the right gear and gives a lot of people a surprise.
It's my wife's car and she averages 28mg on short school runs and general running about, on the motorway to the lakes well get 32mpg fully loaded when my wife drives, with me at the helm its 30mpg[8|].

Wow[8D], is all I can say about your CSL, as they say its all in the preparation and you are certainly doing that.
It goes without saying it will be fantastic when its finished, and all your investment in time and money will pay off and not go to waste.
Thanks for sharing the photo's
Hope to see it in the flesh and on track in a few years time!
I'll have to make do with my Die cast model sat on my desk for the time being, and my visit the BMW museum in November.

I am sure you have all your resource's of info sorted, but are you on the CSL forum?

It's mostly E46 owners there, but a good group of guys there UK and International, that I am sure would love to see your car as it develops.
A few have their avatars showing the original CSL, possibly a few German owners on the forum, who knows!

All the best and keep up the fantastic work, thanks for sharing the pictures again, eagerly await the next instalment!
Shawn

I have come across that car several times Jake, went down to CCK in Kent to have a look at it with the other two that they looked after.

It was owned by Georg Kjallgren but believe it was sold not long ago (for £85k). Although it had an original Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection system, good engine etc it was not a particularly developed car.

yes, apparently it didnt run that well and was problematic. I am sure yours will be better! I am surprised that it was only worth £85k though. I would have thought they would be worth mega money.

They also race a GT40 together which seems to be much more successful.

JP ...... your audience awaits the next developments with massive interest, it is some story. I can almost here it screaming it's way around Oulton on the limit !
