My Dad's just got his first Porsche. A 968. He's driving it to Spain in a week or so - thru the chunnel, down thru France, over the Pyrenees, down to Spain.

Sounds fantastic, just wish I was doing it in my 944.

Whats the furthest anyone has been in their porker?

Gothenburg to Barcelona to Frankfurt. That was fun! The first leg I did as fast as possible, so by the time I got there, I was absolutely knackered, but the trip to Frankfurt was a more sedate affair. I think I did the first leg in a day (well, 24 hours-ish) and the second took me two. The trip through the south of France heading up towards Southern Germany was very nice and then to get a good old run on the Autobahns was a lot of fun, if a little stressful on the concentration front!

I've done a few trips to Munich and back, but I always seemed to time them Badly. Either roadworks or bad weather. Oh and the best was a trip from Gothenburg to Frankfurt in a blizzard. Now that was NOT fun.

It's nice to take them on a good run.

Sheffield!!

(in mitigation though i am going to Le Man in it next year[:D])

I did Preston to Northern France last year totalling about 2200 miles in 10 days and the 944 never missed a beat, only the indicators packed up in Dover on the way home, was different driving the 300 miles home with no indicators [] , tried to get them fixed in Dover but to no avail .. so drove back slowly in the first lane .

Took my 944 Lux down to Florence a few years back. On the way back we went over the alps, and via Stuttgart to pop in to the Museum for the first time [:)]

In one hit Inverness to Christchurch stopping only for fuel and comfort breaks. Been to Germany in it too but with overnight stops. Been to Gibralter and Lithuania in my Nissan Patrol.

2500 miles in 8 days in the Turbo, 2yrs ago - down through the middle of France to Marseilles, along the coast to Genoa, up through the Alps to Lausanne then over to Zurich, Stuttgart/Baden-Baden, and back home along the autobahn.

Have also just returned from a Pyrenees coast-to-coast crossing : Ferry to Santander, then crossed the entire range over to Perpignan and the Med coast. From there it was about 1000 miles back to Cherbourg, so about 1750 miles in all - fewer miles but much more demanding for the car as it was constant up & down, twisty mountain roads for the first 700+ miles. Naturally the car performed flawlessly, despite the unremitting exuberance of the driving. I hope to be uploading a selection of photos and videos from the trip very soon - watch this space!

I once did 1,800 miles in 4 days in my Turbo - that was just using it for work and I was so hacked off I used the train for the Friday rather than take it to 2,250 for the week. Back then it averaged 1,000 per week and aside from the head gasket (which did not dump me at the roadside) it didn't let me down at all until I put a hole in the sump.
