jet wash or not jet wash

as per a couple of the other threads around at the moment, I am washing my car this weekend.

i plan to use a jet wash to rinse the car down, ensuring that the nozzle is angled about 10-12 inches from the paintwork at all times and never pointing straight at the car.

i've had comments that the jet washer can damage the paintwork. any comments please?

Thanks, Dev.

I used my jet washer all the time on my 997 before the Thames Water hose-pipe ban.

I can control the intensity of the jet stream though and mix the jet with shampoo too, so no issues with paint damage. I do try to avoid too much power on the rear parking sensors though.

This is the washer I have: http://www.jet-wash-direct.co.uk/pressurewashers/tiger.html Works great when I am allowed to use it, especially on the wheels and wheel arches. Buckets only for me this summer though, which in my eyes is crazy as I use 10 times more water rinsing with buckets!

thanks alex. in my area, i'm led to believe that jet washers are allowed. thanks for your comments though. i've got a basic jet washer, and i'm sure it will do what i need it to do! which is basically rinse the car! thanks.

I think you're wrong here if you live in an area under any sort of hosepipe ban. It's my understanding that you can use a mains - connected pressure washer for most things, but use for cleaning a car is specifically prohibited.
Of course, this doesn't apply if you're drawring water from a container .

i use my karcher jetwash fed from a 2 gallon bucket and a 2 ft length of hosepipe.........the bucket i top up with a watering can

No jet wash the public can buy, or that you'll find at the petrol station will rival the heat and pressure an industrial unit can generate. I did a summer job cleaning cars in the late 80's/early 90's and you needed 2 hands and strong forearms to keep the gun pointing where you wanted it, and pointing it at a single spot for more than say 1 second would damage paint.

I assume you're not using one of these industrial units - as such, as long as you don't keep the jet pointed at a single spot at close range for a long time, you'll be fine.

You know what, after the news last night on Thames Water record profits and record leaks I'm tempted to completely ignore the hosepipe ban and start using my Jet Washer again (it uses less water than buckets anyway). [:-]

We are paying for a service we are not getting simply because of Thames Water's ineptitude and greed. There would be no water shortage if they got rid of the leaks. I really hope the Water governing body OFWAT see sense and fine them into spending more on fixing the leaks. []

Sorry, rant over, I just miss cleaning my car more often! [:(]

The whole idea of the ban is for houses without meters who would not care on how much they use as it is fixed price for them; I don't see why someone like me and my neighbours (in a new development all with water meters or anyone else with a water meter) should have the ban too [:(]

Absolutely.

Don't forget - their profit margin (AFTER paying to fix leaks) is £100 per customer. Next time I get a bill, I will be asking for a rebate.

Michael, try that at the OPC when you're filling out the order form for your 997 TT with ceramics and calfskin Bollinger holder.... let us know how you get on!!

[:D][:D]

Mind you, an OPC does actually give me what I pay for, even if the price might make me faint. SO I don;t actually mind if they make a profit. Thames Water charges me for water supply plus leak fixing, and then limits my water usage because they haven't fixed the leaks. [&:]

Maybe I should look for an alternative water supplier [8|]
