could be wrong but could thid this not be a bit of clutch slip at higher revs as your rpm will be allot more downshifting from 3rd to 2nd? Compared to other gear downshift?
i ciesed up my first non turbo 944 engine down shifting from 3rd To second which induced high revs and bwcuae I stupidly had very low oil in the engine and my oil warning light didnt work (but thats a different story all together !)
lets see what others say??

Mine did this for over 10 years (worse when hot), but after a new clutch last summer it's lovely and smooth now.
Yes that's what I thought I'm not sure the currently mileage on the clutch, initially I thought it might be a warped flywheel but looks like many have found it to be the rubber centre deteriorating. Some have replaced their clutch with a centre spring type which apparently makes the problem worse. Do you know where I would be able to find the part number for the correct clutch??
Many thanks

Hi,
I had this exact same problem after I changed to the new style clutch. The transaxle mount fell to pieces so replaced with a semi solid mount and even worse!! So got a porsche orig and worked a treat ( also found a small crack in the bell housing which was welded ) Drives perfect now
