Judder when downshifting into 2nd
- Thread starter wjk_glynn
- Start date
It may be the flywheel face , but I have a feeling it may have something to do with older clutches and weaker clutch springs. (I know that goes againts B Dave having a new clutch)
Found an old Rennlist thread about clutch judder... http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/944-turbo-and-turbo-s-forum/216091-clutch-judder-in-first-gear.html
Interestingly... one S2 owner's root cause was traced to a faulty exhaust hanger.

Ever had your diff carrier bearings checked?
Rubber or spring centre clutch?
Engine mount condition?
Hi Jon,
Never had the diff carrier bearings checked.
I believe its on its original (rubber center?) clutch with 135K miles. And if I do a hard 1st gear launch the clutch will slip a bit (I've 255 wide Avon tyres on a 17x9" rims in the rear), so in general I think the clutch is beginning to show signs of wearing out. But I didn't know if that's the cause of the judder and feedback from folks to date seems to imply its a coincidence (unless rubber bits are the cause).
As regards the engine mounts, not in great condition.
Thanks for the pointers. Plenty to keep me busy...
Karl.
