Finally got the energy to have another go at my brakes - I did the pads, calipers and discs in one go a couple of months ago - sure it would resolve the juddering problem. Unfortunately it made absolutely no difference[
So where do I start - or probably more accurately - to whom would you recommend I take the car - daft question but is there such a thing as a juddering brake specialist?

Steady on guv'nor! Glad it's sorted. It's funny how problems with rear wheels can exhibit symptoms normally associated with the fronts; in fact, it's also funny how sensitive 944's are to slight imperfections in balancing, tracking, disk wear and whatnot. I had a slight wheel judder that felt just like an out-of-balance front wheel recently. But nope - the front wheels were perfectly balanced. However, when taking the rear wheels off to bleed the brakes recently, James_G came across a (deep breath, chaps), lump of chewing gum stuck on the inside rim of one of the rear wheels. Since that has been removed, the apparent mis-balance of the front wheels has disappeared ... Glad that your problems had a happy (and simple) ending Colin. Sorry Oli, I couldn't for the life of me remember where I put that. Could you pop it in the post for me, I think it was only half chewed?ORIGINAL: zcacogp James_G came across a (deep breath, chaps), lump of chewing gum stuck on the inside rim of one of the rear wheels.
It was yours? [&o] Terribly sorry mate. I finished it off. (Hot peppermint. Nice. I admire your taste in chewing gum.) Oli.ORIGINAL: Diver944 Sorry Oli, I couldn't for the life of me remember where I put that. Could you pop it in the post for me, I think it was only half chewed?

One thing noted on the ramps at the weekend is that mine has been jacked up in the wrong place on both sides, and with something vicious enough to have taken the underseal off and cause bare metal to be left open to the elements. You can't get thicker than a cheap tyre fitter. [This is usually when the car has bee jacked up with supported on the floorpan under the pedal and is cured with a solid piece of wood placed near the pedal and a few large(ish) hammer blows to flatten the floor again!

... and a pleasant one at that! Thanks again. (Should add that I only realised this surprise fix the other day. At around 80-85mph, when it would previously have been gently wobbling away, I noticed it was steady, as it should be. I am attributing this to the lack of chewing-gum ... Mr Smiths' loss is my gain.) Oli.ORIGINAL: James_G Now that is a surprise![]
