ANDREW W (964) 1.09.50

Thanks John, for getting these up so promptly.

Particular congrats go to John - that's a stunning time which I hadn't realised you had made. I am sure Adrian said he would have been quicker in his 964RS[;)] Having said that, some very experineced 993 drivers made some of their runs look easy. So, was it the drivers or the cars...............[;)][:D]

I think Team 964 will need some upgrades before next time. Should we all start with the "nut behind the wheel"[:D]

I happen to know Messrs Randeria and Proctor very well and, yes, they have had a touch of practice at this kind of thing. At work, most people are not sure who Zubin is as he is most often on track days. As for Steve, can he be disqualified for specced up Manthey Ring suspsension?

[;)]

That was in the 964 C4. I don't know the name of the guy who owned it but he was one of the people who was kind enough to give up their time to help. I think the fastest 964RS was in the 1.10.s

Thanks for that. You have made me feel far better and my depression at losing has lifted slightly[;)] (see other thread for comments on me being a bit competitive[:D]) It's not an excuse, but it was the first time I had driven any Porsche other than on HM's highways and the first trackwork in anything for 2 years. Better get some practice in for next year.

For me, the big gain I came away with is how much fun I have been missing not doing trackdays etc. Just driving the RS on the road only shows you one side of its character. It's even got me wondering about a little bit of competition - sprints or hillclimbs - although I am a long way off the level and will need a bit of practice and coaching to get anywhere near the level I would want to be.

As I said in a previous thread, there were a couple of people whose driving was that little bit above the rest and their lines, and therefore their times, showed it.

Well DS RSR consistently hit 100KPH and did an unrecorded 115KPH well within the drain each time even had a compliment paid to me by a 993RS Senior Clubsport marshalling at the cone........although semi disaster runs in the later Big Slalom feel really chuffed. Lst year on the Bridgestone SO2's spun practically everytime did 9 runs and although fish tailed up the approach several times and got a bit sideways never actually really lost the back, have never driven before on Michelin Pilot Cup Sports they seemed to dig in on the turn and power on particulalrly when they got a bit hotter........I think they must have really cooled down after lunch....great day well chuffed (for me) with the above...a little more practice...and will be up there on the Big Slalom next year....I'll be back.....[:D]

Incidentally Andrew advised to brake at the cone and turn in....I actually slowed slightly turned in and powered on expecting to spin like Torvill and Dean but the MPCS's just dug in..........that was the moment I discovered a new dimension to the RS what a huge learning curve the 964RS set-up tyres etc such a big player.[;)]

That was your car Rob!!! [;)]

Surely not the C4!!!!, being the fastest 964 on the course!!! (and rhd Simon!)

Good job Andrew was driving, I estimate I could have done it in about 2 min!!!!!

Never have I been so scared and excited at the same time (in the car anyway![;)])

Thanks for the rides Mel and Feroz, look forward to seeing next time.

Rob

It was very interesting to see the first high speed corner from the marshalling viewpoint, assesing where the bump was and where you needed to be placed to have a chance to get round the corner, Rob and myself could tell on entry 9 out of 10 times who was going to get a raised fail flag. We did actually wait for confirmation of our predictions before actually raising the flag.
The quick way to get the high speed and make it round had nothing to do with having fun though and the technique employed by Mr Walsh on the turn was effective with a certain ammount of damage limitation.
Also having the advantage of not having the sun in my eyes I would love to give that a turn a shot sometime, once the technique and line are down I think many people would get through th entry point at over 72mph..

In the dry two years ago I was nipping 160k, with Andrew alongside.....after I noticed the bump by the cone......his record is 105mph reducing to 40 mph by the 'wall' (can't remember what car that was in...)

He was convinced he could get over that -had a go and then it started to rain!!

On Friday, ten k was all the difference between making it and not, barely 90-100k attained on turn in, blew it every time, but what fun!!

Wow, that sounds like fun. I didn't realise you fellas were doing timing/slaloms etc. Can we do this again the spring/summer? I would love a go at this........interesting to see Mr Probert out there in the lead.....I can lap at similar speeds to John 'round Donington, honest!! Come on!!

Melv, it was an Elise that Mr Walsh went through at 105mph.

Johnny, a great day but the slalom runs needed low down torque, with the wet /cold conditions you would have had more do-nuts than a fat kid in a cake shop!

Aye, Paul, low down torque would be an issue for my car......couldn't I just hook lower gear and rev the nuts of it??!! [;)][:D]

On the other thread, Mr Howells is talking about hiring the infield of Silverstone. Sounds good to me.

Clubsport look at the Maritime Blue car 964RS on this forum..........call me if you want........

Des, thanks for the offer, but after the evnts of Friday it is even more clear in my mind that a 993RS is the way forward. I was tempted to try a 964RS for a while but I would only hanker after the 993 version. I may as well hang on until the right car comes along.

**Des the above is a serious response and not just to wind you up...Honest! **
