Member News
Welcome to new members Tony Molly (Wilmslow), Geoff Coleman & Kimberley Jones (Gatley), David & Jill Ridley (Rochdale - 993), Gary Houghton (Marple Bridge - 996T), Roger Walton (Crewe - Boxster S), Tony Richardson (Congleton - 997 GT3), Charles Rising (Tideswell), Peter & Helen Cooke (Stoke-on-Trent - 996 C2), Christopher Hawley (Altringham - Boxster 2.7) and Nick & Mrs Hardisty (Bramhall - 997T)." Your fellow R5 members and I hope to meet you at our annual New Members Night on July 13 (see below for more information), or at one of our other forthcoming events. If your time is limited do be sure to attend R5's family orientated Regional Event, "˜Porsches at Arley Hall 2011', on 11 September.

Next R5 Event
The next R5 event is our New Members Night on July 13, at the Deanwater Hotel, starting at 2000. See "FORTHCOMING R5 EVENTS" below for more information.

Communication
In an attempt to get information on R5 events to members who do not have time to read either Porsche Post or my Newsletters I will be experimenting over the next few months by also putting regular "Next Event" posts on the R5 Section of the Club Forum. Please let me know in due course, preferably by e-mail, if you favour this method of communication.

Porsches at Arley Hall 2011: Progress Report No.1
Arrangements for this, our second Regional Event at Arley Hall, on 11 September, are well advanced and the organising team is confident we have assembled an array of attractions to suit all tastes. The 2010 inaugural event was a great success and exceeded all our targets, so please support your Region again this year and help us do even better.
We need lots of help on the day to set up for the event, run it and clear the site afterwards. Accordingly, I will shortly be sending out Helper Schedules to enable you to choose a time to help which best suits you personally. We are only looking for an hour or so of your time and without it the event cannot run smoothly, so please help us avoid that.
See also the announcement in the ClubNews section of the August Porsche Post for details of the event attractions, directions to Arley Hall and how to enter the Concours and/or obtain advance purchase tickets.

R5 Planning Questionnaire
Please complete and return the Questionnaire issued with my March Newsletter.

Warning for 996 Owners
Whilst working recently on a 996, R5 member Mark Voights of transmission specialists Alan Voights Gearboxes encountered a build-up of road dirt behind the rear wheel arch liners that would in time result in corrosion to the car's cills. Call Mark on 07816 613760 for more information.

FORTHCOMING R5 EVENTS
July 13 Club Night
This, R5's annual New Members Night, at our regular Deanwater Hotel venue, is the opportunity for new and longer term members alike to get to know each other better and chat about all things Porsche (or anything else for that matter), in the absence of any formal presentation. For what I believe is the first time, it will include a BBQ (at the subsidised price of £4.00 per head), as well as the usual, informal Favourite Car competition, in which everybody present takes part as both competitor and judge. Please let me know if you will be attending, preferably by e-mail, to help with the catering arrangements.

July 31 "Summer Sunday"
The destination for July's "Summer Sunday" outing is the popular, annual Teddy Bears' Picnic at the home of R5 member Peter Farley, at Topclose Farm, Macclesfield Forest, Nr Macclesfield. Rendezvous at PC Wilmslow at 1100, in readiness for an 1130 departure on a 30-ish miles scenic drive to Peter's home.
Please be sure to bring a bear or two, and don't forget to include marmalade sandwiches (!) in your picnic.

August 10 Club Night ***Please note 1900 start time***
Our August Club Night will comprise the traditional car club Treasure Hunt that we have had to postpone on two previous occasions. For those members unfamiliar with such events, it will entail a drive of about 30 miles, during which a number of clues can be found to help participants locate "˜the treasure'. The route has been "˜borrowed' and I am assured that the directions, etc will be easy to follow.
So as to enable all cars to complete the route in daylight, please gather in the car park of the Deanwater Hotel by 1900. The event will end at a different hostelry, at which an inexpensive supper will be available. Prizes will be awarded to the winner and a runner-up or two.

August 28/29 "˜Gold Cup' Race Meeting, Oulton Park
The long established and highly popular HSCC "˜Gold Cup' race meeting for historic racing cars of all types takes place over the August bank holiday weekend. R5 will be organising its customary display of Porsches and a complimentary entry pass is available for either or both days to any PCGB member displaying a car on the R5 stand. See ClubNews section of July Porsche Post for more information, including how to apply for passes.

September 2 - 4 Club 50th Anniversary Event
All the information you could want on this, the Club's most significant and ambitious event in its entire history, can be found in the last few editions of Porsche Post. R5 will have a Region stand at the RAC, Cirencester, on the Saturday and Sunday (3 & 4 September). On-stand parking is restricted but there will be plenty of space within the Register areas, so park there and then bring your picnic chairs and other paraphernalia to the R5 stand and help us make a show befitting the North West.

OTHER CLUB ACTIVITIES
Please note this information is provided solely to alert you to other Porsche events at venues not too far from home that you may wish to attend. It does not mean any formal R5 presence is planned.

July 22 - 24 "Silverstone Classic"
See July Porsche Post for details of the Club stand, etc.

July 23 Speed Championship (H), Shelsley Walsh

August 6/7 R18 Woodvale Rally, Formby
Woodvale Rally (www.woodvalerally.com) is one of the biggest classic car shows held in this country, with a commensurately large "˜trader village', funfair and other entertainment, plus a very serious model aircraft flying display and competition. If you've not been before do make this your first visit and be prepared to be amazed at the 200mph-plus model jet fighters. If you contact the R18 RO, David Baker, immediately you might still be able to book onto R18's display pitch; otherwise use the main car park.

August 7 "Porsche & Polo", Kirtlington
See July Porsche Post for latest information.

August 13 Club & GT3 Cup Challenge Championships, Oulton Park
