This Swiss Tour of the Alps has proven very popular.
Could of had at least filled 18 places !!
I am more than willing (& would love to ) organise one or even two tours per year in the future (as a regular event) to Switzerland & Italy.
Once you've been then you'll realise the passion for these mountains & you will all want to keep on returning as I have through the years (7)
Keep you all posted

Agree totally !
Linda and I generally do road trips twice a year for 2-3 weeks to the alps usually one way at least via route napoleon
do several passes each time
fabulous fun
enjoy your trip

I will almost certainly be driving down to the Monaco Classic in 2018, stay for a week there and then do the passes either before or after. It would be good to compare notes and possibly join up with anyone else heading that way.

I would very much like to do this but never seem to make the organised tours for various reasons such as work clash etc. Next year I plan to do my own trip down to Florence. I have a relative who lives near Colmar in the Alsace region of France which would be our starting point. The rough route I have in mind is to Zurich to the Dolder Hotel and some passes then to Lake Como via the Fluela pass then down to Portofino and on to Florence then returning on a diffent route. I would very much appreciate any advice from members on passes/roads/hotels that are a must for a 2-3 week trip

Bob, we drove Davos, St Moritz and onto Lake Como- superb roads with spectacular views.
I'm not really in the Swiss fan club at the moment as they do seem to be jumping on car convoys- but maybe that's just the bad lads miss-behaving and getting vocal, Really is a stunning country with great routes.
I also very much enjoy the Vosges mountains, but as you have family there, I'm sure you can recommend some routes to us [:D]
On the outskirts of Zurich, we've stopped a few times as Einsiedeln for a break, there is a large underground carpark there with a gentle slope, so no grounding out.
Its a great trip by the sounds of it [:D]

We're hopefully driving to Florence in June 2018 but bypassing Switzerland.

I have a brother in law who lives in Eguisheim which is just south of Colmar. It is a walled historic town and possibly woth a visit if you like old towns. My niece married a Mr Gaschy who is one of the viticulters in the town and produces a good brew if you like Pinot blanc, Cremant etc. I have another niece who lives at Munster which is known for its smelly cheese. Tastes great but smells awful in my view. If you look at a map of the the ski areas north and west of Munster you can see some great roads. D581 towards Hohrod and Route de la Schlucht to La Scheif included

Hi Bob, We have stopped in Munster a few times [:)] I remember the cranes in their nests up high but not so much the cheese!
The hotel I always tried to book was in Hohrod - the Panorama, but never seemed to want groups []
As you say, some great mountain routes on those hillsides, myself and the 997 register have a hoon up and down a fair few of them and those on the Ballon.

I'll look out for those brews.
Last time we visited Colmar we found both the mini Statue of Liberty and the red light district - amazing where the register tours take you :p

I am sure Alan must have covered off this in one of his quizzes. The Statue of Liberty was given to the US by France and was designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi who came from Colmar. The old family house is now a Museum in Colmar I believe. As for the Red lights I cant help but I am sure there must be a quiz question in there somewhere Alan

I'm sure there is but anyone getting the answer correct may have another difficult question to answer from their other half!
