Todays Autocar has a nice final test of the runout 996 Turbo "S" and the attached info on its replacement [;)]

Why the huge price increase over the outgoing model ? Lets hope its pretty much fully loaded as standard.

The 996 was around 89K.
With X50 it got up to 97K.
The new turbos must cost more than the current ones, and you now get 6 pot callipers and bigger brakes.

They mention that it has an aluminium bonnet and doors, but all 997s have an aluminium bonnet (don't they?), although I am not sure about the doors. So I don't think that accounts for any of the costs.

I reckon the cost is justifiable. Whether people will like it or not is a different matter, since with a couple of options all cars are going to be in 6 figures now. Whether this is a psychological hurdle or not, I don't know, but it made me think when I specced mine.

They had to cut their sales price a few years ago, in order to harmonise the proces across Europe. They have probably been waiting for the new model to introduce a new higher harmonised price.

Very cool avatar, Stuart. Nice picture. I had not noticed it before, is that your car ? (slightly off topic)

Looks like a Gemballa GTR 750 EVO.

Exactly. Shamelessly nicked from their website.
I wouldn't mind if it was mine, but unfortunately not and not really discrete enough for everyday use.

I thought I should have a new avatar.

Anyone notice that the Autocar farewell road test of 996T said you can pick them up for £35k.

I never seen one for less than £45k - so is that sloppy journalism or have values crashed?

Sounds like a trade price to me. On the other hand I know of a 15000 miles 2003 very heavy spec car circa 103K new that was traded in against a heavy spec 997C4S Cabrio apparently for as little or as much [:D],depending on whether you are buying or selling, £57K [] So maybe the older cars are out there down in the mid 30's [&o]
