June Monthly Meeting

Just a quick reminder that our June Regional meeting is from 1pm on Sunday 14th June at OPC Silvertone as mentioned in Sue's post above. It seems as though our abitions for some Le Mans action on the TV might be thwarted since OPC Silverstone don't have Sky TV, hence no EuroSport. Anyone with a portable satellite TV system will be most welcome!!!

See you all there!!

Dave

If they're on broadband at the OPC it might be worth investigating if anything is to be streamed from the Le Mans interweb site (Or maybe the BBC?.) Doubt it though - whoever has the TV rights probably wouldn't be too impressed.

Maybe Mike could hook up a video camera to such a laptop - have our own private stream, although who's going to be interested in what's going on in the Bierkeller?

Would a laptop with a 3G dongle on a data contract be any good?

Chris,

I've been looking briefly on the 'net to see if anyone is broadcasting anything live. It seems that speedtv.com are doing something (see here) but it looks like they're only filling in the gaps left by the broadcasters. You may be able to find something else.

The last time I asked at Silverstone I was told that they are/were planning to install a wireless network but (a) I don't know if it's happened yet or (b) if we could use it anyway. I guess a 3G dongle would be worth a try IF there was anything to watch.

Regards

Dave

HaHa...Hey Chris, were you following me last year??? [:D]

Sorry, but if I could get a live feed of the race on my laptop, I'd stay on the campsite or in the bar [8D] and avoid risking the sunstroke that goes with watching the 24 hr (actually might be raining this year....[8|])

Hope you find some way of entertaining yourselves.

Don't forget the Emberton Park BBQ at the end of June with the Harley Davidson owners..[:)]

Only trouble with the 3g is that it might be a bit pricey to use, unless it's on a unlimited data account?

My account is for 3G a month and given I'm not using it at all at the moment, we get to use the whole 3Gb!

Thanks to the few hardy individuals who braved the sunshine and sat for an hour or two glued to ITV4. OPC Silverstone came good and retuned their FreeView box and we all saw the triumphant orchestrated finishing display from the Peugeot team. At least the RS Spyders came 1st and 2nd in the LMP2 catagory.

Remember folks, we have the Emberton picnic at the end of the month (28th from 12:30) but no meeting in July as Cornbury House have hijacked our normal meeting date for the Blenheim Palace Festival. Hoepfully see you all there!!

Regards

Dave

I had every intention of being there, but my starter motor didn't fancy it []

Hoping to be at Emberton! On that matter, I seem to remember the group has some some gazebo issues. I've got a 3m popup one I'd be glad do bring. Trouble is, it's too big to fit in the Porsche

I'll be bringing the one I aquired at Stoke Goldington. But of course we will need to shelter from the *sun* not the rain!

Sue/Mike

Although todays meeting has been cancelled, I along with many others have spent the weekend listening to the excellent John Hindhaugh and his co-presenters on Radio Le Mans.

While doing this I realise how fortunate we were to have John and his wife together with others join us as a guest speakers at one of our meetings earlier in the year.

In summary you are forgiven, enjoy the weekend.

Hope Mike's having a good time! Five 997s in the top 8 in GT2 at the moment! Both Corvettes after leading have retired.

Just back. Had a great time - especially when the French LMP1's caught fire [:D][8|], leaving the Germans to clean up in LPM1 (okay, they're Audi's, but at least part of the same family) and GT2 !! (And there weren't any factory Porsches in LMP1 anyway.[:(])

Managed to and get to watch the start of the race in the 'Panoramic' bar drinking champagne, then got BMW ([8D]) hospitality for the rest of the weekend.......I could get used to that life..[:)] Saw John Hindhaugh briefly too.

Club campsite was great (security; food; viewing; facilities; company; etc), but the long-ish access road could do with flattening - and I managed to experience it shortly after torrential rain, so have had to get caked-on (and baked-on) mud off my car this evening.

See you all shortly.

Wasn't there a rumor that someone was going to run one or two RS Spyders in LMP1 this season?

Great result in GT2 though.

HI all

Have just got back from Le Mans myself & yes Chris the GT2 class was won by the number 77 Porsche & the 97 Westbrooke Porsche come in the first 3 in the GT2 class.

The only downside was Mansell Car only lasting 2 laps before it crashed out & Mansell finished up in the Medical Centre but he was ok but I think he should leave the racing to his sons from now on.

All the best Kevin.
