PCGB, Region 13, Hereford, Worcester & Shropshire June 2009
The Hadley Bowling Green Inn on the Last Tuesday of the Month.
Post Code WR9 0AR
June was our Show Night at the Bowling Green Inn. Combined with Will Gough's contingent of visiting cars, there must have been over sixty vehicles, most of which were in the adjacent field.
Several Aston Martins, from a DB4, up to the very latest DBS; Ferraris; a very nice Jaguar E type, Chris Sherwood brought his Bristol 403; many pretty new Porsches, which clearly were not part of the club scene regrettably, Lotus 7 and Caterhams; and many other classics that made up a very interesting evening.
In fact, I was so busy, that I clean forgot to take any photographs !
I had arranged a modest number of pork rolls for the regulars and it was clear that the bar did tremendous business, throughout the evening. Nevertheless, the response to the voting was short called and it was agreed, that the prizes would be re-distributed during the next three meetings with some form of competition, so don't miss out. I was pleased to make contact with new members, Steve Cutler and Ray Norris, who I hope will be joining us in the future and Gary Roberts, who wants to join !
There was also a very nice 1984 3.2 Carrera with 84k on the clock and 911 GFM plate, for sale. If interested contact Roger Kendrick on 01562 777563 or mobile 07710000071, for about £13.5k Seems a good buy to me but be sure to make all the usual inspections.
Sat down at the tables later, one subject of discussion, was the VSCC 75th Anniversary at the Malvern Three Counties Showground on Saturday the 8th August. Although, we now have a fair variety of later cars, I am still looking for some earlier Porsches to compliment the Anniversary. You still have time to let me know if you wish to come. There is no charge for entrants and it will be a great display of vintage cars, such as you may never see again, together with much varied entertainment for the day, designed for all the family.
Ring me "" 01905 620687, or contact Adam Fradgley at r13@porscheclubgb.com.
Regrettably, there has been no response from the Display Register, at time of writing this report.
We shall be having a designated Club Spot and because I have volunteered to marshal for VSCC, Adam will be co-ordinating this event.
Canoeing. I remind you of the Canoeing trip with Graham Howles, on Sunday 16th August. We shall gather at the Royal Lodge Hotel, Symonds Yat for coffee as we usually do for a visit to Paul's. Then a minibus will take us 9 miles up river to Kerne Bridge, for a gentle trip down river, back to The Royal Lodge. The charge will be £15 each, (Pay on the day), sharing a two man canoe, with full safety equipment and a detailed briefing beforehand. It is quite normal for children to attend these trips, so this is an opportunity for a full family event. A packed lunch can be provided for £7, or we may stop at a pub downriver. Such details can be agreed later.
However, in the meantime I do need to collect names. So I can further arrangements with Graham. There are still plenty of spaces for this trip, which should be a great break from the 'rat race' with a gentle paddle down stream. Colin and Mavis Billington from Region 9 have booked and I am looking forward to more of Region 9 joining us. Please don't delay booking with me, as I must give Graham plenty of notice to prepare the craft etc.
Forthcoming Events.
8th August, Saturday. The VSCC, Vintage Sports Car Club Anniversary, see above..
16th August, Sunday. Canoeing Trip.
October,
See above and look out for a visit to Paul Howles' collection.
There is now a year's programme available, call me on 01905 620687. "Vintage " ends in 1930.
Sometimes they are dirty, often used with great aggression with mud aflying and stressed suspension.
Many also preserved in time but used, as well as kept in prime.
These are really "Spanner men", so come and see them at Malvern then.
John Lord.
