Hi all Just thought I'd introduce myself as a newbie to the Porsche fold

I have just got my stickies on a new Cayman in white (Poncy colour I know... but hey I've always had black cars and fancied a change)

I look forward to being a forum member andd asking lots of daft noobie Porsche owner questions

best

Hi Clive I'm also a newbie and own a Cayman S. It's my first Porsche and really enjoying it. White is 'the new black', so good choice [;)] Mine is Guards Red. Rides as comfortable as my previous car which was an Alfa GT which is not a sports car, so really impressed. I went for 18 inch rims for ride comfort but I test drove one with 19 inch wheels and that felt good too.

hey flat6 blimey, small world... this is my first Porsche and I to cam out of an Alfa but not the GT it was ltd edition spider in black. I love the Spider but the new lease price for a replacement was ridiculous. so I look around and settled on the Cayman the other first is that I've least cars fro the last 10 odd years but couldn't find a good lease price on a Cayman so ended up buying one. I couldn't stretch to an S with the bit on that I wanted so went for a loaded non S, been waiting a while now but delivery is on the 23rd so getting quite excited! Still not entirely sure about the white but with Black wheels, it should be cool... we'll see

My car is 4 years old. I was first considering a 3 year old Cayman according to my budget but what swung it for me was when Porsche increased the used car warranty to 2 years (I only wanted to buy from an OPC, with warranty etc.) and so I went for a 4 year old 'S'. Similar to you, I think I would have been happy with either, coming from the Alfa (like you!) the uplift in performance is significant whether it be the Cayman or Cayman S.

Good evening Gentlemen, I collect my new Cayman S tomorrow, slighly different route than yourselves into the Cayman i'm part ex'ing my 997 Turbo which is as fantastic as everyone says and much written about in the car mags but mine has become a garage queen and I'm looking to get back into using a Porsche most days. A very unsung statistic the Cayman S with PDK is quicker than a Gen 1 997 Turbo in the 50 to 80mph dash i.e. in the usual overtaking speed range reducing the famous time exposed to danger. Enjoy your Cayman's as much as I'm expecting to tomorrow. Cheers Paul

Thanks Paul That's interesting. Never thought that would be the case. Is it because of turbo lag that makes the Cayman S quicker 50-80mph? Why will you use the Cayman more than you use the 997 Turbo? Cecil

"Why will you use the Cayman more than you use the 997 Turbo? " because it'll do more mpg??[:)] or the much vaunted extra luggage space?? not sure i would use a 997TT anymore often than i used the cayman,TBH ,which is why i went down the classic 993 route.,but we all have different needs/desires!!and theres a porsche for all of them!!.

You lost me for a minute then! Was thinking you were Monty2 replying to my question![:D] Not sure what i'll move to after a few years with the Cayman. I 've been thinking that a 911 (I know that is vague to say 911) but it'll probably be the Boxster Spyder. I haven't had an open top car and do like the profile of the new roof and rear deck.

Hi Cecil, Good question, the turbo was my 2nd 997 and each had a very cosseted life. The Cayenne and Boxsters I owned although not used every day for commuting shared the load with family bus and accumulated a fair few miles. With that in mind I felt more in tune with the Boxsters handling and enjoyed the odd tail out on wet roundabouts. Now having bought my Turbo with 4,000 miles and just 11 months old when the first signs of market downturn I bagged a bit of a bargain, moving forward 2 years my Turbo had only lost 10K in 2 years of ownership and after being one of the unfortunates that the tax man blunder affected this year a hard decision had to be made, helped by a very favourable deal put together by Michael Cornwell at Cambs OPC I decided to trade down/up to a brand new CS that the OPC had just received to be the showroom model. After just 120 miles driving the smile is back and I'm now looking forward to a few years of fun B road driving whilst retaining more money in my account (for the taxman to plunder again when he decides his PAYE blunder was bigger than first thought). It was a tremedous experience driving the Turbo but being honest the only time I really explored the upper reaches of its performance was on the autobahns last year. The only downside is that I'll now only be an honoury member of the 997 Register which has provided many excellent events over the past years. When I find a way of getting one over on the taxman I'll be straight back to the dealership for another turbo - possibly. Paul

Hi Paul That's an interesting route to the Cayman S. I can see me owning many Porsche. I don't know whether i'll keep my current car 2,3 or 4 years or what direction i'll go in i.e. a Boxster Spyder, or a 997 C4S or another Cayman. I'm sure i'll change my mind many times over the next few years!
