Just Bought A 944!!!

Hi Guys,

I have just bought a 944 and thought, seeing as it is going to need a bit of work, i would join the owners club for all of your advise!! It will be coming this tuesday/ wednesday and i cant wait!! Its a 1982/3 944 in dark green. Ever since i was young i have always wanted one of these, my father got me into them. And now im 18, got enough money to keep my sensible MG-ZT aswel i can enjoy my dream car. Just to let you all know...... i am 18, but i am NOT one of these idiots who buys cars to drive up and down your road with my music on full blast, they drive me mad aswel!!

As i said she needs a bit of work doing to it, so once she arrives on tuesday/ wednesday i will have a good look over her and find out exactly what needs doing and get some pics up for you to all see!! Once she is up and running i would love to take her to some of the meets!!!

Finally i just wanted to say this looks like a brilliant site, it seems to be much more organised than some of the other clubs i am a member of (due to owning quite a few cars in my 18months of driving, and i havent changed any due to me being an idiot and writing them off, i just get bored of my day to day cars quite quickly)

I am sure i will be on here a lot asking for advise and all sorts of other stuff, so thanks in advanced really!!!

Hi and welcome, this is certainly the place for advise on all things 944 related. Great to see someone a tad younger than most of us taking an interest in these cars. [:)]

Hi there and welcome, im also pretty new on here and I'm 20 years old. I, like you, get bored of everyday cars pretty quickly and have bought and sold about 7 in the last year (a couple more and I need a traders license!). You will love the 944, I bought mine about a month ago. Looking for a turbo one next (but insurance at our age doesn't quite agree). Any idea what work is needs doing? Good luck with it!

Henry

Hi and welcome to the forum, I know you'll enjoy the 944 it's a great car.
You havn't signed your name...Rob perhaps?.. anyway good luck with the car and have fun...[:)][:)]

Hi and welcome
Somebody here will know something about whatever 944 related question you can think of!
And unlike some other places will be happy to share!
Just a note about a visit to Porscheshop (Halesowen) on the 24th which shouldn't be too far from you, even if you're in the MG
Mike

Welcome in (to both of you)

It is nice to see some younger blood enjoying our cars, though it makes me feel terribly old. One of you is younger than my son, one of you is older [;)] though it looks like you have both owned more cars than I ever have already

Would be great if you could get the car along to the Porscheshop meet, it should be a busy day and you are bound to have stacks of questions by then

Welcome!

I'd echo Paul S's comments about the Porscheshop open day. There will be plenty of people there who know the cars inside out, and a chance to get it on a ramp for a free inspection that will give you a very good look at the underneath of the car which is often impossible. See the "events" thread in the faqs forum.

Thanks for all the welcomes guys!!!

I would like to come to the meet, would be great to come see all the cars and get some ideas!!!
Yeah, my name is Rob, my user name on here is my private reg on the MG. Dont know how you feel about private reg's if im going to get stick for it or not!!!
Not sure what exactly is wrong with it at the moment, i know there is a few rust patches, but i got someone onto that already. The breaks need replacing, i think it needs 2 new tires, new battery, the underside is brilliant condition had it up on ramps and everything and it is brilliant underthere. once i got it up here i will get someone to come look over it and tell me exactly what needs to be done to it. Im a telecom engineer, so im going to need help from you guys on here, and people local to me im sure. i know the interior (seats mainly) are not in the best condition, i would like to change them to leather ones, but i think that will be something a bit further down the line.

In terms of insurance, im sure you could all do with a laugh, for me, once i get 2 years no claims, i would have to pay £3800. Then again, my first car was a Hyundai coupe and that was £2600 and my MG now is £1200. seem to pay more for insurance than i do cars.

Soon as she arrives on tuesday/ wednesday ill get photos up and give a little description of what i need to do with it, so when its up, if you have a few hours to spare, have a little read through my list and advise please lol.

Once again cheers guys!!!

Wow that really is a terrible insurance quote! I've got 3 years no claims at 20 years old and I'm paying £1000. That's with yes car insurance. Look forward to seeing the pics!

Holy moly £3800 ??? Thats dedication to the cause if thats the quote you are stuck with, or have you found an alternative one way or another ?

That's more than a lot of people pay for their 944 in the first place! Surely that can't be the best quote or cheapest way of doing things especially as a second car?

having looked around this is unfortunatly the best quote i can get. im sure ill get asked but no i dont live in a rough area, it will be garaged and ive not had a bump or anything. its just becuase im so young i guess. I have found a way around it luckly, called my mother and father, and with xmas and my bday coming up soon im sure they can spear 1 or 2 £££££!!!! just got to break the news to them now!! haha

Hi Rob

Welcome to the 944 world and all things Porsche, you will enjoy your new toy and you won't tire of her, I know what you mean about getting bored of cars I am on my 54th!! but my 944 has been with me 8 years and will never be sold.

Sorry to hear about the insurance rip off, just a thought have you tried getting a quote for a classic car policy with limited milage ??

Try Adrian Flux insurance services have had the 2 cars insured with them for the last 4 years.

Cheers

Andy
