Is they anything we should look out for, before we take delivey or any advice ?

The car is seal grey with lep (what ever) headlights, Carrera wheels and nothing much more - looking forward for wednesday [:D].

Any tips will be good
Cheers

ps - wife as taken some talking into this car as it is my 3rd car in 10mths

You don't say where you are buying it from.

If it's an OPC then you shouldn't have too much to worry about. Anywhere else and you will need to take a few precautions.

Good. It's worth asking JCT 600 for:

1. Its full spec.
2. Its service history
3. A list of all the warranty work carried out to date
4. Details of any accident repairs
5. When is the next service due? (try to get it included in the price)
6. Tyre wear (if less than 4mm try to get new ones included)
7. Condition of Rear Main Seal
8. What warranty are you getting?
9. Free Collection/delivery/loan car during servicing/repairs
10. PCGB discount on any parts.

Finally, PSE? (Porsche Sports Exhaust system)

Oliver - Many thanks

so far got must covered, but will get the remaining ones sorted.

What diffence does the Porsche Sports Exhaust system make and must of all how much !!!!!

I've just bought a 2000 (W) Carrera Cabriolet privately. Oliver is right, apparently there were problems with the rear main seals (the ones of mine had been replaced under warranty - I had the paperwork to prove it). The other things I failed to notice (although I didn't mind due to the price I paid - £38,000) were the climate control LCD was broken - will cost £310.00 for a replacement and one of the tyres had worn below legal limit on the inside. Other than that it sailed through its MOT.

A full Porsche History is a must, if its been serviced elsewhere walk away!

Mine has a sports exhaust, they look great - stainless steel and slightly larger than normal exhausts but the best thing is the sound it makes!!

Hope this helps

Martin

When the 996 was introduced many people, myself included, felt that it had lost some of the original 911 character. IMO, the new water-cooled engine was much quieter and, even under duress, sounded rather strained and uninvolving. This was improved slightly with the 3.6 engine, which you have, but it still lacked the traditional 911 flat six noises that you expect from a sports car.

The PSE helps to redress this. It isn't paricularly loud, but it gives the 996 the sporting exhaust tone that it deserves so that your right foot feels directly connected to the engine.

Bad new is the cost - c.£1400 fitted, without switch, but search for other recent posts on this topic. Best to see if your OPC has a car with one for you to try. Bear in mind that it is louder when the engine is started from cold.
