Hi everyone, I am now the proud owner of an 88 944 S and have two issues I need to deal with. 1st one is the odometer doesn't work so god knows how many miles it's actually done! Secondly the car runs to fast and cold on the temp gauge. Possible thermostat and or coolant thermister?
Thanks guys

Not too sure about the temp gauge, clean all the contacts from the sender then clocks out and clean all the terminals up. the speedometer has a cog which slips out of place and does not drive, clocks out and with a bit ingenuity the said cog can be fixed in place, a mate of mine did his cannot quite remamber what the fix was but it was straightforward.

The odometer stopped on the my '86 Turbo the first time I tried to zero it! Turned out to be a red gear wheel inside the speedo which just fell to pieces. Easy enough replacement for about 20 quid I think, just a bit fiddly

Yep I think they strip a cog if you try to zero them when moving.

This was an urban myth, but has become fact now all the bits are old and brittle.

My Dad had his second 944, an oval dash, in 1986. I remember him being careful not to press the reset button when moving even when it was new!

I was put through some weird sort of initiation when looking for my first 944 at a dealer. The smug git turned to me on the test drive, smiled, and asked if I knew how the trip meter was reset: I pushed the button as hard as I could, but nothing broke. [8|]

Spot on! It was enough to finish off the worn out fibrous wheels on 924s and series ones which were on their last legs. My trip meter just broke when it was being reset, stationary in a petrol station.
