Just changed the oil...

Opted for 10w40 as I was advised, and wanted to say that oil pressure is perfect.

The old oil was black, but no contaminents or swarf so that's good (was told to check the oil as it's one way of seeing if IMS bearing is worn).

Happy with the choice and it seems to be running well.

I wasn't quite prepared for how quickly the oil gushes out though (filled up my oil container in about 20 seconds!), I had another one on standby luckily but the force it came out and splashed into the tray meant some of it went over the garage floor.

I think I am going to get the annual service done at a porsche centre / good indy to keep the history and other bits up together, but I am still going to drop the oil 6 months after to put some fresh in from now on.

What sort of mileage do you do in 6months to warranty that frequency of oil and filter change? Guess there is no harm and cost is low since you are DIY-ing it...

I assume it's just the contaminents from the fuel and general combustion.

I've done a lot of oil changes and 99% of the time it does come out black.

What oil are you using out of interest - only changed mine recently after six months and a few K and it was hardly discoloured at all but maybe this is cause I have not done as many miles.

I put a 10w40 in this time round, but the porsche centres have always put 5w40 mobil in according to the history. I'm not sure what Northway put in last time - they didn't document the oil used.

It has been every 12 months throughout it's life, but now I am going to switch to twice a year it will probably clean up the inside a bit more.

Cheers,

Have just had my car serviced. Have always used mobil one 0-40. However, garage has put in 10-40 explaining this would be more appropriate. They also put in Valvoline stating that there is no reason if i wish to continue with mobil for topping up as long as it matches 10-40. I assume this is fine. Mine also came out black but has been in there for a year or more. Car now drives considerably better (4 coils replaced).
