Just fitted ProMax chip

Ok, I just fitted a promax chip to my S2 yesterday. Fitting wasnt too difficult, took about 2 hours or so, chip comes with instructions, which help. Splitting DME unit was a challenge but its quite simple once you work it out.

I also put in a K&N filter and Beru plugs, I can definitely notice a difference in the engine, seems to have lost the flat spot and appears more eager when accelerating. Also slightly different (positive) sounds from airbox.

Overall I'm happy with the improvement, its not massive but a useful addition to the car. There isn't much in the way of tuning the S2 it seems, at least what we do have does help a little.

I also felt an improvement with the promax chip.
My ESS backbox/tailpipe helped as well, although it's a bit large( I can easily get my fist in it!)
I knew about the MAF but not cams! Interesting
Do you know who sells them & what's the improvement?

Thanks for the Cam info.Yet again the US seems to lead the way in mods for our cars.
I couldn't believe how many companies still cater for the 928 over there. It's great to see

Yeah, but it's a pain at times: there are many gorgeous 16V exhaust manifolds available stateside, alas they only fit LHD vehicles, on acount of the steering column clearance. I'd love a pukka Cossie BDA style exhaust manifold on the 3L..

I would have thought there are a number of capable people in the UK to do custom exhausts / headers etc? It won't be cheap. I had some custom headers made up in the US using photos and measurements so it can be done there too for an RHD car. Cams and a full exhaust system would be nice and an increase in compression ratio. I've heard of US 968's with over 300 hp at the wheels so while it's harder to get a lot of extra performance out of an N/A car it can be done. Not a great time to be doing it though.

Somebody told me that BTB Exhausts near Daventry, Northants can do custom manifolds and exhausts for 944s of all types. I hadn't heard this before but knew of them from a BMW E30 forum where they had made many specials for its members.

I think RPM do a custom exhaust for about £400 odd quid, the oem one on mine though seems to be ok at the moment, porsche did make them stainless steel so they appear to last. Perhaps a newer exhaust would improve performance, especially seeing the original has ben on there for 20 years or so.

had a look at the btb website.........wonder how much a custom manifold would cost. Might be cheaper as a batch purchase..........any other s2 owners want to get a new manifold??

A complete guess on my part, but I bet that one off custom engineering work like that will not see any change out of a £1000 [].

The US had over 50% of the worlds 944 production so their market is huge compared to ours, add the fact that power seems to be one of the most important things for US owners and it gives Tuners a much safer marketplace in which to develop parts. Over here you are looking at a handful of interested owners and it just aint cheap to develop anything at that level

CEP do RHD headers:-

I seem to have had the cost of $3k in my head but the price doesn't seem to be mentioned on their website so don't know where I got that figure from - but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't too far away from the mark.

Thought it looked familiar Pat. I also like their billet fuel rails too. And the £/$ exchange rate is becoming more favourable by the day.
