Hi guys ive just joined and im looking for a nice 964 carrera 4. Is there anything i should be wary of when looking at them? Also can anybody reccommend a gud insurance company as im only 24 and the cheapest quote ive had is £900. Thanks for any helpin advance.

Big welcome to the forum - wish I'd made the 911 step when I was 24!

But on your question - £900 at your age sounds a bargain to me - would not have surprised me if it had been north of £2K

I only managed to drop it from 1200 to 900 by adding my fiancee as an additional driver, needless to say shes happy with that[:D].

Welcome aboard fella.

Will then 964 be your daily driver or a second car? You may be able to go for classic insurance if its your second car. Probs need to be garaged though.

Good luck with the search :)

Chris

I plan on using it as my main car, also i cant garage it as my drive is 1 car wide but 2 deep and me and the mrs would have to swap the cars round alot. Oh my budget is upto £20000 or so.

Hi, for £20k you're looking at the top end of 964's, if you've never been in the motor trade, and are not sure what to look out for, get a professional inspection, it's only a couple of hundred quid and is a small percentage of your budget, it will pay for itself as it will show up potential problems, which will give you leverage on the price. Also an inspection needs to be by a Porsche specialist!

I'd recommend the Peter Morgan "ultimate buyers guide" book, it will explain what to look for, don't be in a hurry to get one , take your time, I looked at half a dozen all over the UK before buying mine. It's very easy to let emotions get in the way and buy the first one you see.

Good luck

i noticed that those two guys had cars for sale, but i noticed they're only asking around 14 grand which seems a little low compared to other places.

As AVI_8 says above, £20K should get you the most pristine example of a 964 C4. The £14K prices for those two cars are spot on for a private sale IMO. A dealer offering the same cars would have them up for closer to £17K.

Welcome Chris! What area of the UK are you based in?

I agree with everything others have already said. Ref inspections, apart from Peter Morgan there's also Phil Raby and both will have expert contacts if they aren't personally available to do an inspection.
