Hi everyone
I have just joined the forum and would like to ask some advice and will no doubt get a variety of opinions.

I have sold my TT and am going to replace it with a 981 Boxster.
Have seen various ones on OPC stock lists.
Before I go visit one I thought I should know a little more.

So first question, most have 20" wheels but I would prefer 19". Is this a good choice?

Next, most seem to have 'Sports Tailpipe', now is that just a cosmetic addition as there is separate listing for 'Sports Exhaust'?

Last for today, 'Sports Design Steering Wheel', just a fancier leather covered wheel?

Thanks
Peter

I thought the 20" wheels would give a terrible ride but the 981S PDK I borrowed had both the 20" Carrera Classics and PASM and it felt great on the road. Even the PASM Sport mode was useable - more so than on the 987.2.

The biggest downside IMHO is availability and cost of replacement tyres.

That is a good point, I have read that the 20" tyres are fine due to design but then you are limited to that particular tyre.

Also, now this may sound strange but the brakes look ok inside 19" wheel but from photos appear very weedy inside the 20".

The 981 I borrowed recently had 19" wheels and the ride quality was limo like. They do look a bit weedy though:

Sports tail pipes are just cosmetic.

They are a brilliant car, my only criticism is that for a sports car it is a bit too polished/refined but then I have a Spyder for weekend use only and therefore have a minority view! As a daily driver they are pretty much perfect.

Edited to add - sports design steering wheel gives you flappy paddles with PDK gearbox I think.

I am midway through a 4 week Liam of a 981 . It doesn't have the sport design steering wheel and is much the poorer for it in my opinion as I hate the push pull switch on the standard wheel. Definitely something I would spec . However 19 inch wheels fine and no need for sports exhaust as the standard exhaust with nice tailpipes sounds brilliant - much better than my 987

Good luck with the hunt !!

My tuppence worth:

When 18" was standard the 19" enhanced the look. Therefore we think of 19" as plenty. Now that 19" is standard but the wheel arches are designed to accomodate 20", might 20" become the de-facto upgrade to enhance the look, like how 19" had been? As others have said, the ride is fine on 20's.

The ride is fine on the 20" and the look is amazing, but I'm sure 19" would also be good. If you get a PDK, I would absolutely get the SportDesign steering wheel. I have this and much prefer the gear paddles it to the push/pull buttons on the multi-function wheel that was on the demonstrator I borrowed for two days.

Good luck - the 981 is phenomenal! [:D]

Thanks for the replies and advice.
I have also done what I should have done before and downloaded the brochures from Porsche website, cleared a lot up.

So, have put a (returnable) deposit on a Agate Grey Boxster. It has PDK, Sports Chrono pack, sports design wheel and 19" S wheels with PCM, nav module and universal audio interface.
I gather I will not be connecting my phone as that is a separate item.

It is not a new car but not a demonstrator.
