Just moved from a 986 to 987

So, I've got a few questions about differences that the owners manual doesn't answer:

1. On the 986 the remote receiver on the dash had a red LED that blinked when the alarm was set and blinked rapidly when I pressed the fob to open the boot. This doesn't happen on the 987. Is there no LED in it now?

2. What's the orientation light on the interior light and how should it work?

3. What's the knack to putting the hood in the service position with the glass window? The plastic window on the 986 could be folded to give good access and a couple of cables had to be popped off. (I want to get better access to check the rear drains).

4. Is it possible to change the automatic central locking that currently activates when the doors are shut and I start to drive off. I'm already paranoid that if I stop and nip out of the car to say, open a gate, that I'll lock myself out with the engine running! Or am I worrying about nothing?

Thanks in advance [:)]

FLashing light is on the door lock button below the central air vents

One in each internal door opener, plus one that points to the ignition swtich on the drivers door plus one in the central interior light. Gives an orangey glow. The brightness of these can be adjusted in you have either PCM with Sports Chrono plus or with the dealers computer.

It's a similar operation but the cables pop off the roof rather than the car side. Their is a strap underneath the rear lip of the roof to hold up the glass.

Yes this can be disabled, or lock with the ignition on, or drive off. This can be done from the PCM with Sports Chrono Plus or if you just have the radio by the dealer.

Thanks Nick. You've comprehensively answered all my questions. I can now get on to clearing the rear drains properly, having already done the front ones. [:)]

Tracy, I'll PM you the details when I get a mo. [:)]

BTW, I'm really enjoying the upgrade. [;)]

I think it will only lock the doors when you drive off and hit 3-4 mph my 987 does this too (it will not lock the doors when the engine is running and car is not moving)

Thanks Rich. I've tried it a few times now and am now happy I won't be locked out. I had the spare key ready the first time just in case. Then subsequently found that the none of the remote buttons on the spare work! The led on the key flashes but there's no locking/unlocking. However, I believe it can be bought back to life by putting it in the ignition, turn to position 1, press the remote button and then remove it.

It's so complicated compared to the old 986! [:D]

Hey Steve, here is an undocumented user feature:

Remember, when your 986 was locked for several days; when you came back to it the remote didn't work so you used the key and probably made the alarm sound in the process.

Well it still does this on the 987.

However, if you find that the alarm system has gone to sleep, tug once on the drivers door handle as if to open the door; the alarm system wakes up and you can now use the remote again. [:)]

Thanks Nick, I don't think I'll get to try waking it up from a sleep for a while because I'm too busy driving it all the time and enjoying the increased performance. [:D]
