hi im new to porsche ownership and just thought id say hi! i know nothing at all about porsche so you will prob see alot of me asking stupid questions over the next few weeks. i bought a 1982 944 with the wider arches. i was thinking of building a kit car maybe a dax rush or something but then the porsche came along so went for that. the bodys in mint condition but the engine is not so good, but thats part of the fun of driving a car to me geting your hands dirty and building them back up to how they should be. it always seems to be more fun to drive a car after a few weeks of hard work. im just hoping my wallet dont get to light in the process! john.

Welcome John!
I too had an early 944 lux ( an 83 ) and I loved that car. In 3 years of ownership it never let me down. You'll find lots of people on here willing to help you with your questions regarding your car so you can have her running sweetly!

Cheers

John Daly.

Welcome to Porsche ownership John. Lets hope it's an enjoyable experience and doesn't lighten the wallet too much.[:D]
There are many knowledgeable folks here who are a mine of information and really enjoy helping others (Fen seems to have a lot of posts but he now has a squashed beetle to worry about!!!).
Drive it and ENJOY.

Welcome John.

I may have a lot of posts, but I have only ever been in a Lux once and it was as a passenger over 10 years ago - and it wasn't a square dash car. I won't necessarily be a lot of help then. The squashed Beetle isn't giving me any worries at all just now though (assuming it's still in the garage where it's supposed to be).

Nope. From 12,000 miles away it's hard to say for sure.

I can watch my home TV though and had I thought I could probably have cobbled a webcam up to look at the garage any time I wanted to. Pretty dark in there though I imagine.

Mind you, you'd have been able to hear it from Exmouth if it was started up so if all has been quiet it's probably still in its bed.

John, a 1982 model must be one of the first ones. It would be interesting to see your VIN plate. Good luck with 944 ownership.

Fen, re watching your home TV, is that using Sony's LocationFree or similar?

Welcome John - I am on the brink of purchasing a 944 - providing the inspection goes well this afternoon (yes, and I have already asked stupid questions). The response from this forum and PCGB members has been outstanding - thanks to you all.

...will I make the ace tonight - maybe next month?

Tony (aka John[;)])

Haven't heard it from Exmouth so it must still be tucked up in bed.

Apologies for the highjack. I will now smack myself and stand in the corner (Ooo err missus)

I have a Slingbox, which I guess is similar though I'm not familiar with the Sony one.

Hi John - Good choice of handle

John,
Porsche change their model year in October so it sounds as if yours was registered sometime between October and December.
Welcome to 944 ownership, I've had mine 13 years and still think it is great.
Get logged onto the Titanic 944 forum, a lot of knowledgeable people there.
Cheers,

Yes, exactly the same premise. A recent comparison of the two systems gave the nod to the Slingbox with the caveat that if you own a PSP then the Sony solution is the one to go for.

hi John I should be buying a 944 soon and this forum has been very useful for info and full of friendly people as well. enjoy the car

Jon

Hi John and welcome to the forum ,ive had a few early 944's (4 to be exact) so i might be able to help you out and if you need any parts give me a shout as i broke a 944 last year and i think i have a few mechanical parts left !!. Regards John.

Hi and welcome [:D]

The `7` type cars are an adrenaline rush but most people that take the plunge experience them, love that experience and then move on as they are so impractical...........as did I.

The 944 is a fine `classic` I hope you enjoy it.
