I recently had my Boxster fully serviced by a trained former Porsche technician and my house. I got to see how to do some of the jobs. They really seem very easy. If you want to know basics like taking the front lights out on 2 seconds, replacing the pollen filter, air filter, getting into the engine from the top or front, changing the oil, spark plugs, bleeding the brakes etc. I can help,as I have all of the basics in step by step form written down. Replacing the pollen filter takes one minute and no tools for example. It could save money for you. I am a complete non- mechanical person and it helped me and I enjoyed knowing how to do some stuff. Jonathan./

That would be very useful information JY, I'm sure it would be very much appreciated, and a lot of it would be relevant to the 996 forum as well.[;)]

Ok, here are a few bits:

Porsche Boxster maintenance.
To change pollen filter or battery:

In front luggage compartment. Under a plastic square, unclip that. Unscrew surrounds around it. Pollen filter on left as look at car. Always use Porsche filter as has graphite in it.
To take out front lights in 2 seconds flat!:

They pop in and out.
Undo carpet surround at front.
Pull off big rubber top (circular about 4cm).
Get tool from tool kit that looks like a flick knife.
Feel for screw, unscrew towards front of car moves whole light forward.
Light is sealed and slips out.
Change bulb at end, open clip.
To put back in, slide light in and use tool to ease it back into position the other way.
Put rubber top back on and carpet back.
To fit new Side markers:

These unclip and pull out.
Push down on connector wire ontop of connector. It is a little clip.
To put back in, push big clip with screw driver as you slide it in.
To get into engine from top:

Put roof half down so back panel stops going up and starts to come back. About 45 degree angle.
Pull off skirt from back rail, clips at both ends.
Pull tension wires from ball bearing sockets.
Lift up and store against hood top.
Unscrew top carpet fastening bolts.
Unscrew cabin cubbyhole from retaining clip above where the two zips meet.
Raise up carpet and cubbyhole and slide off.
Rotate all 6 pins on engine bay cover and slide off.
Reverse to put back together, make sure you get the ball bearing tensioners for the hood on.

To get to engine from front:

Behind the seats, take off carpet that backs onto the seats by unscrewing by fingers under the rear storage. Pull carpet off, moulded, so comes off in one piece. Unscrew eight screws in panel. Hey presto, front of engine.
To change engine air filter:

As above to get into engine.
It is located in an oblong box on the left of engine as you stand at the rear.
Unclip either end then nudge back in with fist.

To Change spark plugs:

Underneath engine on either side mounted longitudinally.

To Change oil:

Need a star pin attachment to fit in hole in retaining plug in engine bottom.
Need a special cradle to hold oil filter shell and turn with a ratchet attached.
New filter is old body with filter inside.
Get engine hot, unscrew plug and filter.
Drop all into bowl.
Leave for a while.
Fill with 9 quarts of Mobil one. Then turn on and let go into oil filter.
Then look again. No need to use metal rod, tells you accurately on dash.
Turn key on and look at oil readout.
Between two arrows top to bottom is only one quart.
Run again and see level,
It has a special way of reading the oil level and sometimes give you a time it will take,
Make sure screw is back in and filter back on obviously.
Should never need to use dipstick.

To change brake fluid:

Need a pressure pump.
Pump into system under front bonnet.
Get to 20PSI.
Use bleed nipple on each brake and hang bottle off it to bleed.
Bleed half a bottle.
Fill up and let it get back into brakes afterwards.

To stiffen hand brake:

Take centre console off where armrest is.
Get two spanners around bolt against each other.
